New Music From Miley Cyrus?

Miley Cyrus Releases Video for Cover of Bob Dylan Song.

Well, it looks like Miley Cyrus might be making an effort to get back to those country roots of hers…even if it is by covering someone else’s music. The Hannah Montana star has released a video for her cover of Bob Dylan‘s “You’re Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go“, and it is currently featured on CMT (but you can watch it below!). This particular cover is featured on the second of a 4-disc tribute album titled Chimes of Freedom: The Songs of Bob Dylan (Honoring 50 Years of Amnesty International) from whose proceeds a portion will actually be donated to Amnesty International. Now Bob Dylan is definitely Americana, folkish, but not always necessarily country, certainly not the mainstream country Miley is connected to. However, Cyrus fills in plenty of twang and slow guitar in this to give it her own country feel.

I have to say though, that while her efforts to be involved with Amnesty International are comendable, I’m not really buying the country angle from her right now. Do you we all remember what she subjected us to in 2010, “Can’t Be Tamed” (which CMT also featured)? Well, if you don’t remember, good for you because it was awful (If you’re curious though, you can watch it below). Miley experienced quite a few embarrassments awhile back (from this video to awkward Lindsey Lohan-esque party escapades), and I think she may just be using the country platform to claw her way back into the good graces of the American public. Or maybe she’s grown up, and it’s a genuine interest in exploring her country roots (grew up in TN…her dad is Billy Ray Cyrus…). Who knows? I guess we will just have to wait and see. In the meantime, watch the two videos and let us know what you think!
