If you’ve been paying attention, you know Shooter Jennings has been quietly turning into country’s own Rick Rubin. From Tanya Tucker to Brandi Carlile to Jamey Johnson, artists who step into his studio don’t just make a record—they walk out changed. Now, it’s Jake Owen’s turn.

Owen has announced his new album, Dreams to Dream, dropping November 7 via Good Company Entertainment, co-produced with Jennings at Sunset Sound in Los Angeles. It’s his ninth studio record, but from the sound of things, it might just be his most personal.
A New Chapter for Jake
Jake admits he’s in a different season now—raising kids, dealing with heartbreak, and reflecting on twenty years of life since he rolled into Nashville with a six-string and a dream. “Sometimes you need to get outside what’s comfortable, what people think you are, or think you should be, and take a risk,” he says. That risk has led to raw, old-school storytelling delivered in his smooth, matured voice.
Early singles like “Dreams to Dream” and a reimagined Waylon Jennings cut “Them Old Love Songs” hinted at the shift. Today, Jake dropped “Long Time Lovin’ You”—a soft, familiar tune that threads back to his childhood, when he was picking Hank Jr. and Haggard songs for his parents on back porches in Vero Beach.
Special Guests and Collaborators
- Jamey Johnson joins him on “The Jukebox Knows”
- Savannah Conley guests on “Them Old Love Songs”
- Writing credits include longtime friends Ben Chapman and Kendell Marvel
The album was mixed by Trina Shoemake and mastered by Pete Lyman, with additional production from Marvel himself.
Why Shooter Matters Here
Shooter Jennings has built a reputation as the guy who strips artists down to their essence and helps them find the record they were meant to make. Friends who’ve heard Jake’s new material told him straight: “Dude, this is you. This is who you’ve always tried to be.”
And that’s the power of this collaboration—it’s less about reinvention and more about revelation.
On the Road
Jake won’t be sitting still ahead of the release. He’s joining Darius Rucker for a UK run this fall, then heading back to Florida in October for shows with Dirty Heads, before wrapping with his annual Flamingo Weekend benefiting the Jake Owen Foundation.
