Caleb Lee Hutchinson released Long Line of Losers on October 30 through Broke Records. Produced by Titanic Sinclair, the album takes hard luck, mistakes and the occasional bruised ego as its starting points.

That is dependable territory for a country record. It also leaves room for some humor, which is where this release announcement gets interesting.

Making room for the mess-ups

The new project includes “Dallas,” described in the announcement as a song about getting out of a hometown, and “I Ain’t Famous Anymore,” which looks back at Hutchinson’s earlier pop-culture visibility. Those themes give listeners a sense of the questions he’s bringing into this chapter.

The publicity release places the record in a Seventies-country frame and points to Sturgill Simpson, Jamey Johnson and John Prine as reference points. Fans can decide how those influences land when they spend time with the album.
