Written by Hagood alongside Little Big Town’s Karen Fairchild and Alysa Vanderheym (Lady A, Florida Georgia Line, One Republic, Blake Shelton), “Blue Dream Baby” offers a modern twist to a 70’s vibe that is sure to become a windows-down singalong of the summer. Serving as Hagood and Musgraves’ long-awaited debut collaboration, the tune spotlights their airy vocals, as they dive into the excitement that comes with a new romantic connection — and the hope that this flame sticks around.
The visual for “Blue Dream Baby” picks up where Hagood’s last video for his pandemic-inspired tune, “Bored,” left off. After being abducted by “gayliens,” Hagood is enjoying his life in outer space with some handsome alien companions, where he is eventually met by a true “Spacey Kacey” version of Musgraves in the psychedelic spaceship. The two party the night away, before Hagood wakes up on the floor of his room, begging the question — was this incredible night a reality or only a dream?
“Kacey and I share stuff we’ve written from time to time with each other,” Hagood says, “but it was actually her boyfriend who heard ‘Blue Dream Baby’ first. He told her about it, and later that night, she and I were texting, when she asked to hear it. To my absolute amazement she was super into it — and the rest is history! I’m still pinching myself that I get to put out a song in the world with someone who is not only one of my favorite artists, but also one of my closest friends. It doesn’t get any more special than this!”
