Old Dominion Kicks Off “Meat and Candy Tour” With Memorable Nashville Celebration

OLD DOMINION KICKS OFF MEAT AND CANDY TOUR WITH MEMORABLE NASHVILLE CELEBRATION

RCA Nashville band commemorates milestone with sold-out headlining tour opener, celebrates smash multi-week No. 1 “Break Up With Him” and looks to the future with new single “Snapback”

RCA Nashville’s Old Dominion kicked off their highly-anticipated Meat and Candy Tour by selling out Marathon Music Works on Thursday, Jan. 14, Playing to an enthusiastic crowd of 1500, the show followed the ceremony for their debut multi-week No. 1 “Break Up With Him” earlier that day, where they celebrated their ten-year journey with friends and fans.

“This is our first show out [of 2016],” singer Matthew Ramsey told the raucous sold-out crowd. “What a way to kick it off in our hometown. Lots of familiar faces and lots of new faces.”

All those new faces are marking Old Dominion as one of 2016’s most exciting country acts to watch as well as an act who is “helping to usher in a new wave of country,” (Billboard). The group showed why critics, radio programmers and savvy fans think it’s the next big thing, playing “Break Up With Him” and new runaway hit “Snapback” for the crowd along with some of the best known cuts from members’ individual songwriting hits such as Blake Shelton’s “Sangria“ and Tyler Farr’s “Guy Walks into a Bar.” The 20-song set was broadcast live across North America by SiriusXM.

“At our first show there were 25 people there, so this is a welcome sight!” Ramsey joked with fans, who crowded the stage and danced all night. “Break Up With Him,” the first single from Shane McAnally-produced debut album Meat and Candy, is unique in several ways. The song was written by all five members of the band – Ramsey, Trevor Rosen, Whit Sellers, Geoff Sprung and Brad Tursi. It was then recorded by all five members who played their own instruments on the album.

“Break Up With Him” also broke unconventionally, getting its start on SiriusXM’s The Highway, where it was voted the No. 1 song of 2015 by fans, after spending six consecutive weeks in the No.1 spot The Highway’s Hot 45 Countdown. It then migrated to terrestrial radio thanks to fan demand. A record deal quickly followed.

“Break Up With Him” marks a milestone for all five members. It’s the first No. 1 for Sellers and Sprung and gives Ramsey, Rosen and Tursi a coveted Triple Play, the award given by the Country Music Association marking three or more No. 1 songs in a 12-month period. Rosen now has four career chart-toppers, Ramsey and Tursi have three.

“It started with just the five of us. When we started this thing out our goal was in the end to remain friends, and I think we’re doing pretty good in that. It also highlights how much it’s just not the five of us any more and how many people are out there busting their asses for us.”

Those numbers could be headed upward soon. Second single “Snapback” has connected instantly with fans, driving 126 country radio stations to add it upon release last week. That’s nearly double the number that initially added “Break Up With Him,” reflecting Old Dominion’s quick rise.

Fans will have lots of opportunities to catch Old Dominion in 2016. First up is a headlining tour that has already secured sellouts of 15 shows across the U.S., including Joe’s Pub in New York City, Joe’s Bar in Chicago, The Roxy in Los Angeles and the Grizzly Rose in Denver. Later in the year they join Kenny Chesney for the second straight summer along with Miranda Lambert and Sam Hunt.
