Patsy Cline on Country Music News Blog

Nashville, she’s got you; the Patsy Cline Museum opening on Friday, April 7 will add another attraction to the “must-see” list for the city’s tourists and locals paying homage to the personal and professional life of the icon.   “In her short nine years as a recording artist from ‘55 to ‘63, she forever changed the voice of country music, the role of female artists and influenced performers across all genres,” says Founder Bill Miller. “To this very day, artists still cover her hits and you’ll hear her recordings used in motion pictures and TV series. She deserved her own museum as she continues to transcend generations of fans. We are honored to work with Patsy’s children to preserve her legacy.”   Located at 119 Third Avenue South, the Patsy Cline Museum houses the largest collection of Patsy Cline artifacts in the world featuring personal letters, photographs, costumes, clothing and household furnishings from her Nashville dream house that have been locked away for more than fifty years.   “I am very happy to speak on behalf of my brothers, Randy and Chip, and in honor of the legacy of my mother Patsy Cline,” says Julie Fudge. “Since the passing of our father, this is our first step together in continuing to share Mom’s music, life and story, as we feel Dad would have. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to partner with and experience what Bill will present to old and new fans alike.”   Guests will travel back to her humble beginnings in Winchester, VA and see family photos, possessions and even the very booth she waitressed as a teenager at Gaunt’s Drugstore. Guests will have the unique opportunity to step inside Patsy’s famed Rec Room, where many entertainers dropped in to jam and party in the dream home Patsy purchased on Nella Drive in Goodlettsville, Tenn. The room contains original furnishings owned and used by Cline and her husband Charlie Dick. This one-of-a-kind, 100-year build features materials sourced locally, including a natural zinc exoskeleton with a terraced boulder waterfall feature, as well as an interior ceiling made with sustainably harvested sapele mahogany donated by Bob Taylor of Taylor Guitars. St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® Honors Country Music Artist Darius Rucker with Randy Owen Angels Among Us Award

Darius Rucker on Country Music News Blog

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® honored GRAMMY Award-winning country music artist Darius Rucker at the 28th annual Country Cares for St. Jude Kids® Seminar on Saturday, Jan. 14 at The Peabody Memphis. Rucker received the prestigious Randy Owen Angels Among Us Award, which recognizes individuals who have made exceptional and lasting contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital through their unique commitment and humanitarian spirit. Rucker is a staunch supporter who has championed the lifesaving mission of St. Jude for several years – lending his talented voice and passionate heart to raise funds and awareness for the hospital. In 2016, Rucker hosted the seventh consecutive, star-studded Darius Rucker and Friends benefit, a sold-out concert that featured performances by Charley Pride, Hunter Hayes, Drake White, Terri Clark, LOCASH and Scotty McCreery. The annual event has raised more than $800,000 for St. Jude, helping to ensure families never receive a bill for treatment, travel, housing or food – because all a family should worry about is helping their child live. In 2015, Rucker recorded “Possibilities,” a song inspired by courageous St. Jude patient Brennan. Rucker heard the tune when Brennan presented it to him, and he later recorded it at a session in Memphis with the help of patients at the hospital. Rucker was surprised during the event with a $50,000 donation to St. Jude, given in his honor from ACM Lifting Lives, in recognition of Rucker’s charitable spirit and work with both St. Jude and the Academy of Country Music’s charitable arm. ACM Lifting Lives works to improve lives through the power of music. “Darius Rucker’s generosity, passion and humanitarian spirit inspire us all, and we are honored to recognize him with this well-deserved award,” said Richard Shadyac Jr., President and CEO of ALSAC, the fundraising and awareness organization for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. “His numerous contributions and generous donations are a testament to his continued commitment to helping St. Jude save the lives of children suffering from cancer and other life-threatening diseases around the world. We are extremely grateful for the support of Darius and countless other country music artists who lend their hearts, time and talent to help further our mission.” This award places Rucker among the ranks of only four past recipients, including ALABAMA front man and co-founder of Country Cares for St. Jude Kids, Randy Owen for whom the award is named, country artist John Rich, former ALSAC Chief Operating Officer David McKee (posthumously) and St. Jude Country Cares Advisory Council member, Sharon Eaves (posthumously). Rucker first gained fame as the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist of the GRAMMY Award-winning American rock band Hootie & the Blowfish. Since then, he has dominated country music charts as a solo artist. Rucker recently signed on as host for the second season of “Reel South,” an anthology series highlighting 12 non-fiction stories from across the country, celebrating America’s rich tradition of southern comfort. DevDigital, a local full service digital development firm that specializes in custom web development, enterprise and mobile application development, and web hosting will provide the design and hosting of the site at no cost. “The true measure of growth in supporting our military community, is when like-minded Americans realize a need, and then take action. Charlie, along with DevDigital, Lt. General Keith Huber, Operation Stand Down and the board of The Journey Home Project are joining forces to create a Nashville resource center that will serve our military families in the way they so deserve. We are experiencing the incredible success of a center such as this at the Charlie and Hazel Daniels Veterans and Military Family Center on the MTSU campus. I feel honored to be a part of this amazing process,” said David Corlew, co-founder of The Journey Home Project and Daniels’ manager. Nashville-based 501(c)3 non-profit, The Journey Home Project, made 2016 a record year of giving with hundreds of thousands of dollars pledged to various initiatives. The organization, co-founded by newly inducted Country Music Hall of Fame member Charlie Daniels and manager and music industry veteran David Corlew with Ed Hardy, Joe Longever and Mercedez Longever, was founded to make a difference in the lives of American veterans by helping to meet their education, healthcare and employment needs. Highlights of the year included donating $50,000 to Shepherd’s Men as part of their 1,400-mile run from Boston to Atlanta to benefit the SHARE Military Initiative at Atlanta’s Shepherd Center. After donating over $100,000 to Middle Tennessee State University to create their Veterans and Military Family Center which opened in April, the center was named in honor of Daniels’ and his wife Hazel earlier this year. The 2,600-square-foot, $329,000 center is a one-stop-shop for MTSU’s approximately 1,000 student veterans and family members. At an event in October prior to a Tennessee Titan’s game called Tailgate for a Cause, The Journey Home Project presented a check to the organization A Soldier’s Child. ASC provides children of fallen military personnel who have given their lives in service to our country a birthday gift each year until they are 18. They offer multiple mentorship programs as well as scholarships to their members. Presently, over 2,500 children are enrolled in the program. These funds are made possible through the charitable giving of individual donors throughout the year as well as major fundraising events including an annual gala at The Palm Restaurant in Downtown Nashville.
