<p class="wp-block-paragraph">They say you should not play where you work or work where you play.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">That advice makes sense until someone invites you to camp at one of your favorite festivals, cover its 20th anniversary and call the whole thing work.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This Labor Day weekend, the <strong><a title="Country Music News Blog" href="https://countrymusicnewsblog.com">Country Music News Blog</a></strong> team is taking a walk on the wild side. I am packing my boots, leather jacket and portable field office for <strong><a href="https://www.whiskeychick.rocks/ROK2026">Rocklahoma </a></strong>in Pryor, Oklahoma.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Unbeknownst to some of my country-loving readers, live rock and roll was my first love. It probably always will be.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I have spent more than 20 years working around country music. However, the louder corners of the live music world helped shape the <strong><a href="https://whiskeychick.rocks">WhiskeyChick</a></strong> you know today.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Those are also the events I usually protect as personal time. Sometimes a girl needs to leave the media badge at home, disappear into a crowd and enjoy a show without turning it into content.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Rocklahoma has always been one of those places for me.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This year, an opportunity to cover the festival practically fell into my lap. How could I resist when its 20th anniversary is happening right here in my Oklahoma backyard?</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Rocklahoma Is More Than a Lineup</h2>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Rocklahoma returns to Pryor from September 4–6, 2026, with a Thursday Night Throwdown kicking things off for campers on September 3.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The anniversary lineup is enormous. Godsmack, Papa Roach and Slayer headline the three main festival days. Stone Temple Pilots, Cypress Hill, Black Label Society, The Pretty Reckless, Yelawolf and dozens more fill out the weekend.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">However, country fans will find several familiar sounds hiding along the harder edge of Friday’s lineup. <strong>Dexter and the Moonrocks</strong> have built their following by smashing country storytelling into grunge-soaked rock. <strong>Black Stone Cherry</strong> brings the Southern-rock muscle, while <strong>Tim Montana</strong> has spent years traveling between country, outlaw music and heavy rock without asking permission from any genre gatekeeper.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Yelawolf, Molly Hatchet and several other artists across the weekend also live somewhere along that country-rock-Southern-music fault line. But the lineup is only half the reason Rocklahoma matters.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">The Campground Is Part of the Show</h2>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Modern concert tickets are expensive. Fans are being asked to spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars on a weekend away. At those prices, hearing your favorite hits while watching the performance on a jumbo screen is no longer enough. The live experience needs to offer something bigger. It needs to pull you inside its world and make the juice worth the squeeze.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">That is where Rocklahoma shines.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The campground is not merely a place to sleep between sets. It is a sprawling fan-built neighborhood filled with themed camps, late-night jams, booming sound systems, homemade stages and friendships that have lasted for years.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Campers have been known to bring everything from light bars and stripper poles to Jell-O shots and Jell-O wrestling. After the headliners finish, you can wander the grounds and find an entirely different festival happening beyond the gates.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This year, Ump and I have been invited to join Camp Mardi Gras in the VIP campground. The camp is celebrating its 12th year with a Friday-night Masquerade Afterparty and a full block of friends, photographers, podcasters and devoted rock fans.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I am already figuring out how to turn our red, white and blue camp gear into something purple, green and gold without replacing everything we own.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">A Preview of Born &; Raised</h2>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Rocklahoma also offers country fans a preview of what makes the <strong><a href="https://www.whiskeychick.rocks/BnR2026">Rockin’ Red Dirt Ranch</a></strong> special.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Just two short weeks later, the same Pryor festival grounds will welcome <strong>Born &; Raised Music Festival</strong>. <p class="wp-block-paragraph">The genres may change, but much of the magic comes from the same place.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Both festivals invite fans to settle in, build temporary communities and experience music as something bigger than a parade of isolated stage performances. The campgrounds, shared traditions and friendships between sets become part of the ticket.</p>
