SHOOTER JENNINGS HITS ROLLING STONE TOP 15 LIST

Shooter Jennings made history when his Countach (For Giorgio) album – 10 songs written or inspired by electronic music pioneer Giorgio Moroder – debuted inside the virtual world of multi-player online game Shroud of the Avatar™ earlier this year. Last week, Rolling Stone named the groundbreaking collection one of their “15 Great Albums You Didn’t Hear in 2016 – Rolling Stone critics choose LPs that flew under the radar.” “With this mesmerizing and unexpected tribute to dance-music pioneer Giorgio Moroder, Shooter Jennings finally finds a way to combine all of his diverse influences. There’s outlaw country (a snippet of dad Waylon’s “Outlaw Bit” opens the album), moody prog rock (David Bowie’s “Cat People” with Marilyn Manson) and soaring Eighties pop (“The Neverending Story,” as sung by Brandi Carlile). It’s all tied together by the pop-culture geek mind of Jennings, who hides sonic Easter eggs throughout: Sam Kinison’s scream, amusement-park commercials and the speeches of video-game visionary Richard Garriott de Cayeux. But the heart of the project remains the songs of Moroder, which Jennings interprets with reverence. And a whole lotta synthesizer,” wrote Rolling Stone Senior Editor Joseph Hudak. In addition to Manson, Carlile and Garriott, Countach (for Giorgio) included an appearance by the late Steve Young, singer, songwriter and outlaw movement figure Shooter befriended several years ago. On Sunday, Shooter wrapped up a 10-city tour – and 2017 – with singer/songwriter Jason Boland. The two swapped songs in a simple acoustic setting that packed venues in the east and mid-south. The rest of 2016 was filled with touring with his own band and with Waymore’s Outlaws, three of Waylon Jennings’ original band members and lead singer Tommy Townsend. Black Ribbons: The Ultimate Edition His Countach album was followed by the release of A Night In Room 8 by Billy Don Burns, which was produced by Shooter and released on his Black Country Rock label. Last month, he released Black Ribbons: The Ultimate Edition, a limited edition package of his 2010 Black Ribbons album that included vinyl, cd and unreleased tracks. The highly anticipated BCR Mixtape ’16, the annual collection of cuts personally selected by Shooter from Black Country Rock releases, will be available at BCRMedia.com on January 1, 2017. www.shooterjennings.com www.facebook.com/ShooterJennings www.twitter.com/shooterjennings www.instagram.com/shooterjennings/ www.bcrmedia.com

Randy Rogers Buys Cheatham Street Warehouse

Randy Rogers on Country Music News Blog

FINLAY FAMILY SELLS CHEATHAM STREET WAREHOUSE TO LONGTIME KENT FINLAY DISCIPLE RANDY ROGERS Chart-topping Texas singer-songwriter will assume new ownership of legendary Central Texas launching pad on January 1, 2017 SAN MARCOS, Texas – Cheatham Street Warehouse has a new owner: Randy Rogers. The country music star recently purchased the legendary club from iconic venue owner Kent Finlay’s children Jenni, Sterling and HalleyAnna. Kent Finlay, who died on Texas Independence Day 2015, founded Cheatham Street Warehouse – the iconic Texas launching pad responsible for skyrocketing George Strait, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Randy Rogers, Todd Snider and hundreds more singers and songwriters – more than forty years ago. Additionally, Finlay’s children all grew their musical wings at the venue. “Knowing that Cheatham Street’s legacy will stay in tact under the love and care of Randy Rogers fills all of our hearts,” eldest daughter Jenni Finlay says. “Randy came up performing at Dad’s beloved Songwriters Night and it’s only fitting that he takes the helm. We’re so excited about the next chapter for Cheatham Street.” “I plan on honoring Kent in every way with my plans and vision for Cheatham,” Rogers said to the family. “This means so much to me personally.” Finlay’s beloved Cheatham Street Warehouse has always existed for creation. Songs begin on Cheatham’s stage. They grow. Breathe. Live. Earn more miles. Finally, they mature into shape. Finlay’s songwriters night, an open mike for original songs he hosted for nearly every Wednesday night at the venue for more than four decades, nurtured singular songwriters and storytellers with stunning frequency during his lifetime. For instance, the celebrated “Class of ’87” included Americana all-stars Todd Snider, James McMurtry, Terri Hendrix, Bruce Robison and Hal Ketchum learning their craft. “Kent and his great little honkytonk with indoor toilets gave me and a whole host of others a place to learn our craft and to learn how to be, sing and play music onstage,” Strait says. “[I thank] Kent for believing in the up-and-coming Ace in the Hole Band with a totally unknown singer who had big dreams and for helping make those dreams a reality. I’ll never forget those days.” Literally bucketsful more – including celebrated guitarists Eric Johnston and Monte Montgomery, deep-browed songwriters Owen Temple and Walt Wilkins, fiery live acts Joe King Carrasco and Charlie and Will Sexton – have emerged from his humble honky tonk stage. Additionally, legendary singer-songwriters such as Marcia Ball, Guy Clark, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Willie Nelson, Billy Joe Shaver, Ernest Tubb, Townes Van Zandt and dozens upon dozens more regularly stepped on the Cheatham stage throughout the 1970s Cosmic Cowboy heyday. “Randy Rogers’ career began on the Cheatham Street Warehouse stage,” says Gregg Andrews, Cheatham Street Music Foundations board of directors president. “His devotion and loyalty to Kent as a songwriting mentor has never waivered and he’s fully committed to perserving Kent’s outstanding legacy. Through the years, Kent and his family transformed the creaky old warehouse along the railroad tracks into a songwriters’ oasis of world renown Continue reading Randy Rogers Buys Cheatham Street Warehouse

The Journey Home Project Donates $100,000 To Nashville VeteransVirtual Welcome Center Through Nashville Serving Veterans And OperationStand Down

Representatives from Nashville Serving Veterans Community Board, Operation Stand Down and DevDigital with Charlie Daniels 501(c)3 Non-Profit Co-founded by Country Music Hall of Famer Charlie Daniels Funds Multiple Projects and Gives Back to Those Who Served The Journey Home Project, co-founded by Charlie Daniels, presented a check for $100,000 to Operation Stand Down Tennessee on behalf of Nashville Serving Veterans Community Board. The gift will be used to staff the Nashville Serving Veterans Community Board’s Virtual Welcome Center in partnership with Operation Stand Down Tennessee. DevDigital, a local full service digital development firm that specializes in custom web development, enterprise and mobile application development, and web hosting will provide the design and hosting of the site at no cost. “The true measure of growth in supporting our military community, is when like-minded Americans realize a need, and then take action. Charlie, along with DevDigital, Lt. General Keith Huber, Operation Stand Down and the board of The Journey Home Project are joining forces to create a Nashville resource center that will serve our military families in the way they so deserve. We are experiencing the incredible success of a center such as this at the Charlie and Hazel Daniels Veterans and Military Family Center on the MTSU campus. I feel honored to be a part of this amazing process,” said David Corlew, co-founder of The Journey Home Project and Daniels’ manager. Nashville-based 501(c)3 non-profit, The Journey Home Project, made 2016 a record year of giving with hundreds of thousands of dollars pledged to various initiatives. The organization, co-founded by newly inducted Country Music Hall of Fame member Charlie Daniels and manager and music industry veteran David Corlew with Ed Hardy, Joe Longever and Mercedez Longever, was founded to make a difference in the lives of American veterans by helping to meet their education, healthcare and employment needs. Highlights of the year included donating $50,000 to Shepherd’s Men as part of their 1,400-mile run from Boston to Atlanta to benefit the SHARE Military Initiative at Atlanta’s Shepherd Center. After donating over $100,000 to Middle Tennessee State University to create their Veterans and Military Family Center which opened in April, the center was named in honor of Daniels’ and his wife Hazel earlier this year. The 2,600-square-foot, $329,000 center is a one-stop-shop for MTSU’s approximately 1,000 student veterans and family members. At an event in October prior to a Tennessee Titan’s game called Tailgate for a Cause, The Journey Home Project presented a check to the organization A Soldier’s Child. ASC provides children of fallen military personnel who have given their lives in service to our country a birthday gift each year until they are 18. They offer multiple mentorship programs as well as scholarships to their members. Presently, over 2,500 children are enrolled in the program. These funds are made possible through the charitable giving of individual donors throughout the year as well as major fundraising events including an annual gala at The Palm Restaurant in Downtown Nashville. Hosted by LL Cool J and Chrissy Teigen, Lip Sync Battle pits celebrities in a head-to-head fight to see who can deliver the most outrageous and entertaining lip-synched performance. Lynch and Pope will each take the stage twice in eye-popping, choreographed routines as they pretend to sing classic hit songs. The audience will then pick a winner. The show first began as a much-loved bit on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, and has since become a broadcast and viral sensation. In other news, Lynch hosted his third annual hometown concert in Tullahoma, Tennessee, on December 6, taking the stage with fellow songwriters Jim Collins, David Lee Murphy and Corey Crowder and raising $17,237 for local charities. Explaining that it’s easy to forget those who need help, even in tight-knit small towns, Lynch donated the money to local children’s charities Horse Play Inc. and 5Loaves4Kids, and collected a pile of Christmas gifts for the Tullahoma Fire Department’s Toys for Tots drive. Lynch’s profile continues to rise on the national stage, as he’ll be the featured supporting artist on country megastars Florida Georgia Line’s upcoming DIG YOUR ROOTS TOUR, which kicks off in January of 2017. Meanwhile, the sizzling Top 15-and-rising first single from Lynch’s third studio album, “SEEIN’ RED,” has been released to rave reviews and is already a hit with fans, with Rolling Stone praising Lynch’s vocals as “one of his most soulful and assured to date” and Taste of Country proclaiming the song “unapologetically sexy.” It follows the three-peat GOLD and PLATINUM success of singles “Where It’s At,” “Hell of a Night” and “Mind Reader” from his sophomore album, WHERE IT’S AT, and an equally steamy music video for the track was recently released. Brantley Gilbert’s The Devil Don’t Sleep Lands Jan. 27

Brantley Gilbert on Country Music News Blog

For Brantley Gilbert, his back-to-back platinum success comes from writing about his life – and watching the people who live like he does respond. If Halfway To Heaven was the story of a young man in the clutches of all it means to be wild, and Just As I Am considered the consequences of the life and the good times getting there, The Devil Don’t Sleep marks the next phase of the working class country icon in the making’s life.   Sixteen songs on the regular disc. Ten more on the Deluxe Edition. It’s a whole lot of music from country music’s hardest hitting songwriter/artist. It’s also a lot of life lived.   “A lot has happened,” marvels the man nominated for CMA Song of the Year for Jason Aldean’s signature “Dirt Road Anthem.” “And anyone who knows me knows that every album is another chapter of my life. Even though it’s my life, even though some of what I write about is very specific to what happens to me, I think the challenges, the places where we figure things out are all the same – no matter what we’re facing, realizations all mean the same things.”   Though “The Weekend” explodes as one of Gilbert’s industrial strength five o’clock Friday party anthems, The Devil Don’t Sleep works a celebratory tip for other reasons. As Gilbert is quick to point out, the songs offer a cautionary undertow because, as the title suggests, temptation is a non-stop reality – and people need vigilance to avoid backsliding into the very things that defeat them.   “By now, everyone knows the story turned out okay for me,” laughs the man who sold out his entire BlackOut arena tour last winter, as well as his Take It Outside amphitheater tour which closed with two nights at Red Rocks. “But the truth is there’s always temptation, there’s always something – whether it’s work or substances or gambling or whatever – that can pull you off the path. For me, thankfully, I got through it, got the girl back, got to keep my career moving…”   As a tortured soul trying to walk the straight and narrow but always feeling the pull of the devil’s right hand, The Devil Don’t Sleep is supplemented with a Deluxe version that captures the roots of his songwriting and the essence of his blistering live shows. The expanded package represents a fuller look into the hard-hitting songwriter’s journey to where he is now: one of four country artists to mine back-to-back platinum albums for sticking to his unapologetically rock-country hybrid on Halfway To Heaven and Just As I Am, six #1s including Aldean’s “Dirt Road Anthem” and “My Kind of Party” and his own “Country Music Be Country Wide,” “Bottoms Up,” “You Don’t Know Her Like I Do” and the deeply personal “One Hell Of An Amen,” two consecutive sold-out headlining tours and the love of the girl he lost along the way and the 2014 American Music Award Continue reading Brantley Gilbert’s The Devil Don’t Sleep Lands Jan. 27
