Hank Williams Jr Keeps The Change

Hank Williams Jr Controversy Sparks 1st Amendment Concerns and Inspires A New Song. Recently, Hank Williams Jr. sat down on Fox‘s Hannity for an interview. In this interview, he made the unfortunate choice of comparing President Barack Obama playing golf with House Speaker John Boehner to Hitler playing golf with the Israeli Prime Minister. As a result of his comments, Williams’ popular and arguably iconic opening theme for the “Monday Night Football” broadcast was suspended from the October 3rd Indianapolis-Tampa Bay game. Following this temporary suspension, the choice was made to pull the theme song permanently. Both ESPN and Hank Williams Jr. have made official statements claiming that the removal was their choice. Either way, the theme song which has represented Monday Night Football for over two decades has been retired. Since this series of events unfolded, several individuals have made a point of throwing in their two cents on the issue. Joy Behar and Whoopi Goldberg of The View came to Williams defense, citing 1st Amendment rights violations. On the other hand, Hank Williams III told TMZ that his father was not worthy of a political discussion and should have just kept his mouth shut. I am inclined to agree with Joy and Whoopi on this one. I do not agree with the content of Williams’ statements, and I certainly do not believe that President Obama is the enemy. The choice of Hitler as a comparison is wholly inaccurate and a little ridiculous. Yet, the sentiment of his statement is, I think, representative of the disconnection many Americans feel from the political system which is supposedly representative of them, but seems only to be failing. In a revision of his inflammatory initial statements, Hank clarifies his point of view in a more constructive way. “My analogy was extreme — but it was to make a point. I was simply trying to explain how stupid it seemed to me — how ludicrous that pairing was. They’re polar opposites, and it made no sense. They don’t see eye-to-eye and never will. I have always respected the office of the president…Working class people are hurting — and it doesn’t seem like anybody cares. When both sides are high-fiving it on the ninth hole when everybody else is without a job, it makes a whole lot of us angry.” – Hank Williams Jr. At the end of the day, however, his statements are not really the issue. The problem is Hank was sanctioned for statements he made unrelated to ESPN, Monday Night Football or football at all. ESPN’s suspension and ultimate removal of the theme song was a completely inappropriate knee jerk reaction to statements they really have no jurisdiction to officially respond to in the first place. Had ESPN released a statement suggesting Hank Williams Jr.’s statements were not representative of the organization, that would have been a much more appropriate response. This is essentially what they are demonstrating by removing the theme song. Hank, or any other American citizen, has the Continue reading Hank Williams Jr Keeps The Change

Blake Shelton Footloose Video

Check Out Blake Shelton’s Rendition of the Classic Footloose! Word on the street has it that when Blake Shelton was approached to get involved with the new Footloose project, he was asked to contribute a song of his own, and Blake responded he would only participate if he could have the title track. I have to say, I sure am glad he put his foot (no pun intended) down about that! Blake’s rendition of the original Footloose song is just as firey and fun as the original, but with a little extra Shelton-esque umph added to the mix. This version definitely has a little more twang than original, and it’s definitely an improvement. See if you like Shelton’s version as much as I do. Watch the Video Here! Dolly Parton Makes Joyful Noise

Dolly Parton Stars in Upcoming Film, Joyful Noise! Dolly Parton will be returning to the silver screen in January of 2012 with the release of upcoming comedy, Joyful Noise, in which she stars alongside Queen Latifa. The storyline follows a small town gospel choir that is trying to make it to a national competition, and the only way they can make it is if semi-rivals played by Parton and Latifa can learn to work together. Queen Latifa is known for her comic timing, and Dolly definitely puts her classic whip-smart southern humor to good use! I never would have thought it, but it looks like Latifa and Parton make an excellent pairing as their feud provides a great base for some really comical scenes. This may not be a ground breaking film, but it certainly looks like its going to be pretty entertaining! Check out the trailer here! Toby Keith Red Solo Cup

Toby Keith Releases Video for Hilarious and Silly Song, Red Solo Cup Toby Keith has released the video for his track, “Red Solo Cup“. This extremely silly song is an ode to the always helpful party drink receptacle, THE red solo cup. The video follows Keith around at a party as he points out the positives and negatives of the red solo cup as he demonstrates his obviously close relationship and bond with this plastic cup. He even points out why the red solo cup is preferable to the less popular blue and yellow solo cups! I think my favorite part of the video might be the cameos, especially that of Princess Leia. That’s right, I said Princess Leia. Guess you’re just going to have to watch the video to see what in the world I’m talking about. Enjoy (I know you will.) Check Out the Video Now! Lauren Alaina Releases Wildflower

Lauren Alaina Releases Debut Album and Choose Second Single! Lauren Alaina‘s album, Wildflower releases Tuesday, October 11th! This is the American Idol runner-up’s much anticipated first album, and the creation of it seems to have been a great experience for Lauren. “Ever since I was a little girl, I dreamed of releasing my own album. I can’t believe the day is here! I am excited to share it with the fans who have been supporting me throughout my journey. I hope they enjoy listening to this record as much as I did making it.” -Lauren Alaina The album features Alaina’s debut single, “Like My Mother Does” as it’s title track as well as the second single she has chosen to release, “Georgia Peaches“. The second single will impact radio on October 24th. As a Georgia native, this song has special meaning for Lauren. It seems Lauren is apt to choose music she can connect to directly since her first single illustrated her relationship with and respect for her mother, and this second one relates to her roots. This shows promise for such a young talent, in that she has already proven herself capable of choosing music that represents her as an individual instead of a marketing gimmick. Alaina will be getting the word out about her release with several appearances and performances which are listed below. Most notably, she will be performing at The Grand Ole Opry on October 22nd which will be aired on Opry Live on GAC at 8pm ET. Stay tuned for a detailed review of Wildflower!
