Jimmy Wayne Talks Paper Angels

Jimmy Wayne Interview About His Book, Paper Angels. Thanksgiving is just around the corner and Christmas is close behind! This time of the year is one of my favorites for many reasons. It is a time filled with family, friends and love. I find that many, not all but many, have a spark in their hearts around this time. People get the bug of thinking of others and not just themselves. I recently read a book that embodies that sentiment in more ways than one. Paper Angels by Jimmy Wayne and Travis Thrasher is a book that has the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program at its’ epicenter. I had the opportunity to talk to Jimmy about the book and I learned a lot! Many of Jimmy’s beliefs and the things he stands for come from his personal life experiences. You might call Paper Angels partly-fictional, in that it’s a made up story, but the characters have been influenced by real life people. “I never wanted to right a fiction, I’ve always been a nonfiction kind of guy,” Jimmy said. “I wanted it to be real things I experienced. I couldn’t steer far from the truth, that’s just the way I am.” Thomas, one of the main characters in the book is strongly based upon Jimmy’s sister. Thomas looked out for his younger sister, Sara, just like Patricia looked out for Jimmy. “She was a kid going on grown,” Jimmy said of Patricia who still looks out for him while be a mother to children of her own. There are bullies in this story (Vic) and there are kind people (Carlos), both of whom Jimmy dealt with growing up. This book takes you on an emotional, year-long journey with two families dealing with struggles that happen every day. As soon as you think you know what will happen next, you are thrown by an unexpected act of kindness. The ending might throw some people, but Jimmy is fine with that because that’s how life is. So the question is, will there be a second part to Paper Angels? Jimmy said that there is a possibility! I’m sure many are happy to know, Jimmy has not given up on his music career. With the help of Pat Alger, the two have wrote an entire album and are planning and shopping the record around to people in the industry. “I want to put it out, but it has to be done with the right people,” Jimmy said. We can all respect that! We will just have to wait patiently for Jimmy’s next release. Whether it is a new book or album, we’ll be ready! Until then, Jimmy is continuing to be an advocate for at risk youth and the foster care system. I suggest you pick up a copy of Paper Angels, it will be one you will want to re-read each holiday season! For more information on the Salvation Army and their services click HERE.

Sammy Kershaw Involved In Bus Accident

Sammy Kershaw, Band and Crew Involved In A Bus Accident. This past weekend, Sammy Kershaw, his band and crew were involved in a roadway accident while on tour in Texas. On Friday night after hitting the road following a concert in Nocona, Texas, Kershaw’s bus was struck by another passenger vehicle. The bus was impacted at a high speed, causing major damage, leaving the vehicle inoperable. The driver of the vehicle that struck Kershaw’s bus was taken to hospital with injuries. Kershaw, his band and crew were shaken and sore but not seriously injured. “My guys and I are a little sore today… the third day is always the worst. Eleven people were involved in the accident and no one was killed. It could have gone the other way. Buses and cars can be replaced but people can’t. I’m so thankful that the other driver, my band and crew are all still here. We had a guardian angel.” -Kershaw Kershaw has not canceled any concerts and will use alternate means of transportation until his bus is repaired. We at CMNB are very happy to hear that everyone is going to be just fine! Accidents happen every day, just stay focused when on the road. On a lighter note, here is one of my all-time favorite Kershaw songs!

David Kroll Releases Little Soldiers For Veterans Day

David Kroll Helps Charity With Proceeds From “Little Soldiers.” David Kroll’s current single, “Little Soldiers” has touched many soldiers and families. In honor of Veterans Day (November 11th), the artist and Tenacity Records have partnered with the Code of Support Foundation and will be donating proceeds from a two-week sales period to the organization (November 5th – 18th). The Foundation’s mission is to bridge the gap between civilian and military America. Kroll wrote the song withArlos Smith (Mayberry) and it acknowledges the sacrifices made by the families of those serving their country. “David came to us with the idea of putting this song out there to honor the families of service members and veterans, and then we both agreed that we wanted to try and have a positive impact past the song itself. That’s when we started looking around for a partner who could benefit from any money raised by sales of this song. We all felt the Code of Support Foundation was a great choice and could put money the sales of this recording generates to good use, helping the families of the enlisted men and women who are serving our country.” – Mike Kraski, President of Tenacity Records. According to Kroll, many songwriters and artists have written and recorded songs that are a fitting and appropriate tribute to the enlisted men and women who serve our country each and every day, but few songs acknowledge the families who are making their own special sacrifices while their loved ones are serving. Below is a video of Kroll talking about the song. Get your copy of “Little Soldiers” at iTunes now.

No, it isn’t a new song, it is a re-release like many of the songs on Heroes. Nelson and Merle Haggard sound like the country legends we’ve love on this recording. Last night on the CMA Awards there was a great tribute to the Red Headed Stranger with performances by Lady Antebellum, Keith Urban, Blake Shelton, Faith Hill and Tim McGraw. The whole thing brought tears to my eyes! And even more so when the camera showed Nelson himself getting watery-eyed! If you didn’t see it click HERE.
