Merle Haggard Returns Home After Hospitalized for Illness. Merle Haggard was hospitalized Tuesday, January 17th at a Georgia hospital to be treated for pneumonia. He was released after treatment and intended to head home on his tour bus after canceling a show in Macon, GA. However, he was then readmitted to be treated for other ailments including 3 stomach ulcers and 8 colon polyps. The country icon has now returned to his California home. Our thoughts and prayers are with Merle as he continues to recover. No news yet as to whether or not his illness will influence upcoming tour dates.

Chris Young Donates To MTSU

Chris Young Donates Equipment to Alma Mater. Chris Young recently donated sound equipment to MTSU, the country singer’s alma mater! He and his crew had some equipment, including cables, soundboards, etc., that they simply weren’t using anymore. So, Young decided to recycle it by giving it to the department of production. “Our staff, which includes more than 100 students, will greatly benefit,” Craig Doman, MTSU Director of Production Services The equipment will be utilized for lighting, video and staging for both on and off campus events. It’s great to see a successful musician giving back and supporting his roots! Young was recently nominated for 2 ACM Awards, Single Record of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year. Lauren Alaina and Jason Aldean Duet

Lauren Alaina Sings “Don’t You Wanna Stay” With Jason Aldean. Lauren Alaina is currently on tour with Jason Aldean and Luke Bryan, and the young star has nabbed the opportunity to sing the duet role in Aldean’s “Don’t You Wanna Stay“. This particular performance choice clearly delights fans, and I have to agree, its a great choice. A fan recently caught their live performance on camera, and Alaina featured the video below on her homepage. The camera work is a little shaky, but Lauren’s obvious talent shines through anyway! Watch it and let us know what you think. Does she fill Clarkson’s shoes or not? New Music From Miley Cyrus?

Miley Cyrus Releases Video for Cover of Bob Dylan Song. Well, it looks like Miley Cyrus might be making an effort to get back to those country roots of hers…even if it is by covering someone else’s music. The Hannah Montana star has released a video for her cover of Bob Dylan‘s “You’re Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go“, and it is currently featured on CMT (but you can watch it below!). This particular cover is featured on the second of a 4-disc tribute album titled Chimes of Freedom: The Songs of Bob Dylan (Honoring 50 Years of Amnesty International) from whose proceeds a portion will actually be donated to Amnesty International. Now Bob Dylan is definitely Americana, folkish, but not always necessarily country, certainly not the mainstream country Miley is connected to. However, Cyrus fills in plenty of twang and slow guitar in this to give it her own country feel. I have to say though, that while her efforts to be involved with Amnesty International are comendable, I’m not really buying the country angle from her right now. Do you we all remember what she subjected us to in 2010, “Can’t Be Tamed” (which CMT also featured)? Well, if you don’t remember, good for you because it was awful (If you’re curious though, you can watch it below). Miley experienced quite a few embarrassments awhile back (from this video to awkward Lindsey Lohan-esque party escapades), and I think she may just be using the country platform to claw her way back into the good graces of the American public. Or maybe she’s grown up, and it’s a genuine interest in exploring her country roots (grew up in TN…her dad is Billy Ray Cyrus…). Who knows? I guess we will just have to wait and see. In the meantime, watch the two videos and let us know what you think! Check out Miley’s New Video Below. Garth Brooks Hospital Lawsuit

Does Garth Brooks Deserve His $1 Million Settlement? The final ruling in the court case between Garth Brooks and an Oklahoma hospital came down, and Brooks was awarded a whopping $1 million! The first $500,000 accounts for the donation Brooks gave the hospital to fund the construction of a women’s wing which would bare the name of Brooks’ late mother. The hospital never made this wing, hence the court case. The other half of the million was awarded to Brooks for punitive damages. HaleighT is here to fill you in on whether or not she thinks Garth deserves such a large settlement. Check out what she has to say and tell us what YOU think!
