Carrie Underwood Visits Africa for Malaria Relief Efforts

Carrie Underwood has just returned from a 2nd trip to Africa as part of “Idol Gives Back” humanitarian efforts. Carrie Underwood made her second trip to the Luanda, Angola area of Africa to visit health centers and orphanages dropping off mosquito netting school supplies for children in need. Special footage of this visit will be shown on tonight’s episode of American Idol. From the Press Release: While in Angola, Underwood visited an all-girl orphanage in Luanda where the girls performed songs and poetry for her after she delivered bed nets and backpacks with school supplies to the orphanage. Underwood also participated in a community bed net giveaway in Ngangula, and wrapped up her 3-day trip by visiting a health center in Luanda where pregnant women received malaria counseling and treatment. American Idol and the Charity Projects Entertainment Fund (CPEF) partnered last year to raise awareness and funds for organizations that provide relief programs to help children and young people in extreme poverty in America and Africa. ExxonMobil sponsored Underwood’s most recent trip to Africa. Country Music Photo Gallery

Elvis Presley Christmas Duets

Elvis Presley’s Christmas spirit is recalled in a special Christmas Duets album featuring some of our favorite female country music icons. Country Christmas albums are my guiltiest indulgence during the holiday season (besides all those fresh-baked treats and sweets) so I thought I’d share a sneak preview of the new Elvis Presley Christmas Duets album which features such amazing female country singers like Martina McBride, Leann Rimes, and Carrie Underwood.   More Videos Other artists on the cherished Christmas album include Amy Grant, Anne Murray, Wynonna Judd, Little Big Town, and Gretchen Wilson. 2008 CMA Awards in Review

The 2008 Country Music Association Awards Recap Last night’s 42nd annual CMA Awards show was both a hit and a miss in my book. Artists like Sugarland and Carrie Underwood demonstrated that they are not only hits on the radio, but hitsduring a live performance as well. Meanwhile, top-grossing artists like Taylor Swift and Jason Aldean show that sometimes all you need is a pretty face and a great marketing machine to back it. Many people are up in arms over the way that the night played out, and what it means for the current state of Nashville and the future of country music. My favorite country music news source, The 9513, cites “Country Music’s Biggest Night Wasn’t Country… if you are reading this website now, on the morning after, not because you’re looking for pictures of Kellie Pickler’s boobs but because you love country music, or because you like country music, or even because you have just a passing interest in one of the few contemporary art forms that can be said to be truly and uniquely American, you should feel both insulted and outraged by what you witnessed last night.” DH Country Music site administrator and Earps guitarist Ump had this to say: [youtube:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p0PM9VeGfqQ] Join the conversation and tell us what YOU thought of last night’s 2008 CMA’s in our country music forum! Country Music News in a Flash: Wrecker Jessica Harp Marries, Tim McGraw Gets Suspicious, Carrie Underwood goes All American

Tim McGraw released his new video for the song “Suspicions” using live footage from the Soul2Soul2 concert. I love the stage effects but otherwise I’m not a fan of the song or his rendition of it. Suspicions was originally recorded by Eddie Rabbit in 1979 and reached #1 on the Billboard charts. Somehow I don’t see the same success for Tim on this number. Watch the video and tell me what you think. The Wreckers‘ Jessica Harp celebrates this lover’s season by tying the knot in an intimate candle-lit ceremony to band-mate, boyfriend, and violinist extraordinaire Jason Mowery. Jessica and fellow Wrecker Michelle Branch each plan to release their own solo albums later this year. Carrie Underwood breaks records as she goes through about 20 costume changes in her new video for “All American Girl” that was recently released. Carrie is also celebrating the record-breaking double platinum Digital Single status for “Before He Cheats“, and having a blast on tour with Keith Urban. Dwight Yoakam Only Country Singer on Coachella Festival

One set of dates that’s solid on Dwight Yoakam’s schedule comes April 26. He’s the only country artist set to appear in Indio, Calif., at the annual Coachella music festival, which this year features Pink Floyd alum Roger Waters, Death Cab For Cutie, Kraftwerk and Portishead. The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival (commonly known as Coachella) is a three-day (formerly a one or two-day) annual music and arts festival held at the Empire Polo Fields in Indio, California. The event has several stages/tents set-up throughout the grounds, each playing live music continuously. The following weekend, he’ll return to the same location for the second annual Stagecoach Country Music Festival. Toby Keith, Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood Offer New Holiday Music

It’s the holiday season, and you’re going to the mall anyway, so how about stuffing a stocking with these new Christmas albums? Diamond Rio, The Star Still Shines These guys must love A Charlie Brown Christmas as much as we do, presenting both “Christmas Time Is Here” and an instrumental jam, “Christmas Is Coming.” Toby Keith, A Classic Christmas A generous helping of religious songs on one disc and secular singalongs on the other, this is Toby Keith’s second Christmas package, following a batch of originals in 1995. Larry the Cable Guy, Christmastime in Larryland Somebody has spiked the holiday punch lines. Listen to this one when the kids aren’t around. There’s a DVD version, as well. Raul Malo, Marshmallow World & Other Holiday Favorites If your favorite thing to open at Christmas is another bottle of vodka, shake up your holiday party with this disc. “Feliz Navidad” is always a kick. Martina McBride, White Christmas A blend of solemn hymns and perky holiday favorites, this reissued disc adds four new songs to its wish list. It’s wrapped in a new album cover, too. Mindy Smith, My Holiday The sensitive, spiritual songwriter turns in a quiet, soothing Christmas disc with a few new songs. Alison Krauss harmonizes on “Away in a Manger.” Taylor Swift, Sounds of the Season Thanks to this teen star, a new generation of sensitive girls may discover the melancholy but oh-so-melodic “Last Christmas.” She also includes two original holiday songs. Pam Tillis, Just in Time for Christmas You don’t have to see her Christmas show at Opryland Hotel to buy this lovely CD, but if you can somehow get to Nashville, an irresistibly warm and fuzzy feeling awaits you. Randy Travis, Songs of the Season He wraps his rich baritone around “O Holy Night,” “Go Tell It on the Mountain” and “Joy to the World,” along with a new song he wrote, “Our King.” Conway Twitty, A Twismas Story The country legend loaded up the sleigh with squeaky Twitty Birds for a holiday album released in 1983. After growing up with the kid-friendly album, Twitty’s granddaughter is now featured on the CD reissue. Various Artists, Hear Something Country – Christmas Carrie Underwood asks, “Do You Hear What I Hear?” We sure do — Christmas songs from Brad Paisley, Alan Jackson, Kenny Chesney, Kellie Pickler and many more. Various Artists, Mary Did You Know?: 17 Inspirational Christmas Songs From Today’s Top Country Artists Josh Turner, Joe Nichols and LeAnn Rimes are among the country stars inspired to share the true meaning of Christmas.
