Series to Film This Summer in Nashville; Premiere Fall 2018 NEW YORK, NY – April 30, 2018 – USA Network today announced REAL COUNTRY, a new country music showcase series featuring multi-platinum, five-time GRAMMY Award®-winning trailblazer Shania Twain, and ACM Award-winning and platinum-selling singer-songwriter Jake Owen. Premiering this fall on USA, the eight-part REAL COUNTRY will film this summer in Nashville and is produced by Wilshire Studios, with Twain, Nicolle Yaron, Stijn Bakkers and Leslie Garvin set to executive produce. In each hour-long episode, Twain and Owen hand-select emerging solo artists, duos and groups to perform in showcases that spotlight the rich traditions, songs and themes of specific country genres. The best artists from each showcase will perform in a grand finale, for the chance to be named one of country music’s next breakout acts. “REAL COUNTRY celebrates everything we love about country music, while providing a unique platform for emerging artists to showcase their talent,” said Heather Olander, Senior Vice President, Alternative Development and Production, USA Network. She added: “We are extremely lucky to work with both Shania and Jake. Shania is a true international icon who remains the best-selling female country artist of all time and whose music broke barriers across genres, and Jake is an ACM Award-winner who consistently dominates the country charts with some of today’s biggest hits.” Twain shared: “It’s been an incredible year for me, releasing my new album and coming back to country music. I feel it’s time for me to add my own support in finding our greatest undiscovered talent. It’s beyond thrilling to be leading the charge with REAL COUNTRY, and I’m on a mission to find artists who will keep country music diverse and dynamic. The kind of diversity that inspired all of us.” Added Owen: “Country music truly seems to be the healing factor in a lot of people’s lives. I will always be grateful for music, whether I’m performing or listening, and I want to encourage up-and-coming artists to tell their stories, find their audiences and make their mark in country music with the same guidance that artists have given to me throughout my journey.” “NBCUniversal has made a commitment to reimagine the commercial experience,” said Mark Marshall, Executive Vice President, Entertainment Advertising Sales, NBCUniversal. “REAL COUNTRY is a tremendous opportunity for advertisers to connect with the genre’s passionate fan base in an engaging and authentic way.” Anyone interested in being invited to perform on one of REAL COUNTRY’s showcases can apply at http://realcountry.castingcrane.com or via email at RealCountry@castingduo.com. Now normally we like to stay OUT of the political realm, but after seeing a handful of artists careers permanently damaged over single comments made (:cough: Dixie Chicks :cough cough:) we’re left to wonder how our readers really feel. Recently Shania Twain gave an interview to The Guardian in which she revealed that she would have voted for Donald Trump if she were an American Citizen, and the amount of hateful backlash from the internet had her backpaddling faster than a Niagara Falls barrel rider with second thoughts. Our question to you: How SHOULD celebrities handle political questions in interviews? Should they “shut up and sing” or should their opinion still be considered with the weight of one, just like any other person? “If she could have her time over again, I ask, would she choose what she has now? “I would never choose for my son’s family to be broken,” she says instantly. “I would be one of those people who would keep my marriage together for my child … I tried to keep Mutt.” She says it goes back to her own childhood. “Look at my situation. My parents could have killed each other. Maybe we would have been better off in foster homes, but I decided not to turn my family in, many times. There is something in me that says a family should stay together.” It is not the only way in which she expresses her conservatism. If she had been able to vote in the US election, she would have plumped for Donald Trump, she says. “I would have voted for him because, even though he was offensive, he seemed honest. Do you want straight or polite? Not that you shouldn’t be able to have both. If I were voting, I just don’t want bullshit. I would have voted for a feeling that it was transparent. And politics has a reputation of not being that, right?” She sips on her hot water and honey. That is more than enough talking for one day.” – The Guardian
If you spend enough time on the internet you find yourself going down certain rabbit holes that open your mind to talent you otherwise would have never known existed. This is exactly what happened when one day I went searching for who wrote the intro music for Phillip DeFranco’s youtube channel and discovered “Hot Dad” (Erik Helwig) . As it turns out, Erik’s written the theme songs for a lot of my favorite YouTubers, but there’s a secret he’s been keeping to himself until now… Hot Dad is a HUGE Shania Twain fan! In fact, he’s such a big fan that he assembled the best comments from OTHER fans on Shania Twain’s facebook fan page and somehow managed to turn them into a song that is now stuck in my head. Take a break from your Monday Blues and join the rest of us as we tap our toes to the Shania Twain tribute song you didn’t know you needed! If you enjoy this often satirical and always fun sense of humor, or just want to support a man who can make a catchy song about nearly any topic, I highly recommend you check out Hot Dad’s youtube channel and consider supporting him on Patreon!

Shania tells First for Women that she chooses to focus on her triumphs. “I’m feeling really good,” she tells First. “I’m feeling like I’ve achieved an enormous amount in the last couple of years.” Indeed, in addition to releasing her first studio album in 15 years, she also made her acting debut in the new film Trading Paint, out June 1. Releasing a new album was a special accomplishment for her — after complications from Lyme disease left her vocal cords damaged, Shania worried she might never record another album. “I had gone through so many scary times with my voice and getting my voice back,” she admits to First. “I wondered if I would ever be able to record an album again and put a permanent stamp on a body of work. I was petrified about diving into the album and taking on the challenge.” But Shania refused to let fear hold her back. “I felt, personally, I needed to do it and rediscover a lot of things about myself,” she tells the mag. “Once I dove in, the confidence started to build from that point on.” Shania’s hard work paid off: Her album Now debuted to critical acclaim, and she’s thrilled to get to share it with her fans on tour. “I’m looking forward to this tour like no other,” she tells First. “Being able to take this music live to everyone is surreal for me.” For more on Shania, and to read her top wellness strategies that keep her feeling good, pick up the new issue of FFW, on stands now!
