Spotlight on Songbyrd Music House: Washington DC

The late afternoon sun drifts lazily through the large open windows of the Songbyrd Music House on 18th Street NW in Adams Morgan. Bartenders and chefs are preparing for the evening’s business, and owner Joe Lapan and publicist Peter Lillis sit at a high top table drinking coffee from the adjacent Record Café. [bctt tweet=”Read about #WashingtonDC’s newest #record café, restaurant & bar, and #musicvenue, @SongByrdDC “] This weekend marks the opening of the third piece of the Songbyrd Music House and Record Café—the performance space—and with a capacity to support around 200 people, it brings a new venue to Adams Morgan. Though Songbyrd first opened in April of this year, it did so merely as a place to buy some records, snack on a sandwich, and, uh, record your own vinyl track on a 1947 Voice-O-Graph machine. “We thought Adams Morgan deserves a decently sized music venue beyond what it currently has,” Lapan says. “You have your venues where you’re going to get live music that are similar size to ours, but not necessarily in this geography.” But Songbyrd is much more than just a larger venue for Adams Morgan, and all three aspects—record café, restaurant and bar, and music venue—work together as a complete home for music lovers. “Think about your house,” Lapan says, “it has these separate spaces that all function differently, but they’re all where you live.” Lapan’s metaphor is an apt one. The bar and café are comfortable and feel more akin to someone’s living room than commercial establishments, with cushioned seats, dim lighting, and exposed brick. Records are everywhere. This aesthetic carries even further into the music venue, where deep reds and dark woods have the look and feel of a ’70s basement. Coupled with the comfortable aesthetic is the emphasis that Lapan and co-owner Alisha Edmonson have placed on sound quality. The desire to provide high fidelity audio across a variety of genres and media led Lapan and Edmonson to have a sound system installed by ITI Audio, the folks responsible for the sound at U Street Music Hall. John Anderson To Perform First Nashville-Based Acoustic Concert In Over 30 Years

Set To Appear On General Jackson Showboat As Debut Act On 650 AM WSM’s Country On The Cumberland (Nashville, Tenn. – July 17, 2015) – Country music icon and Hall Of Fame songwriter, John Anderson, will perform an intimate acoustic show in Nashville on July 29 as he appears as the first guest on the inaugural Country On The Cumberland concert series, presented by 650 AM WSM. The special acoustic show, which will take place aboard the General Jackson Showboat, is a rare opportunity for fans to experience Anderson’s intimate show and marks the Country music legend’s first Nashville-based acoustic concert performance in over 30 years. DARIUS RUCKER EXTENDS SOUTHERN STYLE TOUR INTO FALL THANKS TO OVERWHELMING DEMAN

Rolling Stone’s ‘chillest dude in Nashville’ also to release video for latest single ‘Southern Style’ NASHVILLE, Tenn. – (Friday, July 17, 2015) – Darius Rucker’s Southern Style Tour has been such a success this summer, the singer has decided to extend it into the fall. After an astounding 400,000 fans turned out for the first leg, Rucker will now stretch his laidback, hit-filled tour into November. Coming off last weekend’s huge sellouts in Gilford, N.H., Boston, Mass., and Jones Beach, N.Y., the summer run has 15 shows left and is on track to exceed 700,000 tickets sold. Garth Brooks Announces a full force comeback complete with new music! In an online press conference held at 11am Central today, July 10th, 2014, Garth Brooks announced that he is teaming up with Sony Music Group Doug Morris, CEO of Sony Music Entertainment, began by announcing a record deal between Garth Brooks and Sony Music. He offered a recap of Garth’s accomplishments, then introduced Garth Brooks to the stage. Garth described this stage of his life as “the second half of his career”. Garth confirmed new music IS coming, and he will be working with producer Mark Miller, and engineer Matt Allen, and the same band. Garth says “The world has changed, but all we can be is ourselves.” Songs have been selected from Nashville and LA songwriters. No set ETA on a new album. According to Garth “The guys are telling me to keep it vague, but [you’ll hear] new music in the next month”. Garth has finally consented to allow digital distribution (Spotify, iTunes, Amazon, etc) in the coming weeks. Stay tuned to www.garthbrooks.com for details. His official presence on Social Media is still up in the air. Ticketmaster will be handling the world tour. The announcement for the opening city of the world tour will be coming July 14th. The official word on Ireland is “I don’t have a clue” “In January I went over… and was treated like a king… up to ten days ago, two weeks ago it was nothing but love. Then it was ‘we’ve got you covered for the first three shows, but the other two are up to you’.” In short, they are still waiting on the official word.
