Dolly Parton

Country legend and literacy advocate Dolly Parton is helping to kick off YouTube Kids Reading Month, an annual initiative aiming to encourage children’s love of reading. Parton, who has been a passionate advocate for literacy for decades inspired by her own father’s inability to read and write, has created a specially curated playlist for kids and families to enjoy. In 1995 she started the Imagination Library, a book gifting program that mails free books to children from birth to age five in participating communities to ensure that all kids have the opportunity to cultivate their love of reading. You can check out Dolly’s playlist here or if you are viewing from a desktop, then please take a look here. In addition to Dolly Parton’s playlist, there will be a selection of other playlists debuting throughout Reading Month including a fun compilation ofcelebrity #Readalongs including Jimmy Fallon, Viola Davis, and Kristen Bell as they read their favorite children’s books.  To view the playlist in the YouTube Kids app click here and view here if you are viewing from a desktop computer.  Nickelodeon sensation Jojo Siwa is also trying to rally kids by sharing her zeal for reading with the Nickelodeon playlist which you can view here and here if you need to view from a desktop.   More About YouTube Kids Reading Month From early literacy learning to read-alongs of favorite kids books, Reading Month on YouTube Kids aims to unlock literacy for children around the world.  The month-long initiative will kick-off in the U.S., and select global territories this August, enabling kids to explore the magic of the written word and #ReadAlong with YouTube Kids. Find Out Who Made Forbes’ Top Ten Highest-Paid Country Stars of 2018!

Dolly Parton

Who’s seeing the green in the country scene? Garth Brooks gets de-throned and Dolly Parton teaches some young girls a few old tricks about the old 9 to 5 in this year’s list of highest-paid country stars! Our friends at Forbes just unveiled this year’s highest-paid country acts and you won’t believe who DIDN’T make the list! This year it seems like Luke Bryan has topped the list at around $52 million, nudging Garth Brooks off his usual #1 spot. Between his extensive tour dates, his American Idol judge’s chair, and some pretty hefty endorsement deals with companies like Chevrolet, Luke has managed to diversify his income into multiple revenue streams and really rake it in. On the other end of the top ten, Dolly Parton proves that it’s not all about teenagers and tour dates as she hits the #10 spot at $19 Million, making her the ONLY woman in the top ten! The sweet southern sass, and cunning business acumen that only a lifetime in the music business can provide has helped Dolly build an empire of theme parks, dinner attractions, and even acquire and maintain all of the publishing rights to her written and recorded works, giving her the ultimate control over her career and income as time goes by. [bctt tweet=”Find out who knocked #GarthBrooks out of the number one spot in this year’s @Forbes list of highest-paid country stars!” username=”My_CountryMusic”] Also fitting into the top ten club are acts like Jason Aldean, Florida Georgia Line and Blake Shelton, who seem to be taking a few clues from the blonde bombshell herself and opening venues in the heart of Music City to help make a buck. Barely missing the mark: Faith Hill and Miranda Lambert fell just outside of the top ten, in addition to usual suspects like Keith Urban and Tim McGraw. For those still keeping track of the country princess-turned-pop, Taylor Swift, she easily blew the list out of the water at a whopping $80 million! That puts her far over Beyonce’s mark! Watch Now: James Carothers – Sinners and Saints

James Carothers

Country traditionalist James Carothershas released the music video to accompany his single “Sinners and Saints” from his upcoming album Still Country, Still King: A Tribute To George Jones. The music video was exclusively premiered by The Boot yesterday. “Sinners and Saints” is available for streaming and download, and the album is available for preorder here. “If you have half as much fun watching this video as we did making it you might get thrown in the jailhouse!” Carothers said. “A special thanks to the good folks at “The Jailer’s Inn” up in Bardstown, KY, for allowing us to shoot some scenes in the old Nelson County Jail. Also, a shout out to our friends at Music City Light for donating a few beers to the project and one of their finest for the role of “Johnny”. Good times with good friends. Hope y’all enjoy it!” “A rollicking, rowdy time, Carothers’ “Sinners & Saints” video flashes between party time at a honky-tonk and prayer time in church pews. Those scenes are interspersed with shots of Carothers bringing in a scruffy, modern version of some eternal and classic Jones wisdom,” said Amy McCarthy, The Boot. Carothers will host an album listening party at The George Jones rooftop in Nashville on Aug. 6. You can RSVP here. Still Country, Still King: A Tribute To George Jones will officially be released Sept. 7. Keep up with James on Facebook,Twitter, Instagram and YouTube, and on his website at www.jamescarothers.com. About James Carothers Mixing together Tennessee twang and southern storytelling, James Carothersmakes throwback country music for modern times. His first full-length album,Relapse, released in May 2017, bears similarities to classic releases by George Jones, Waylon Jennings and Merle Haggard. Carothers wrote most of the songs between daily gigs at The George Jones in Nashville. Since its opening in 2015, he’s performed hundreds of shows at the venue. George Jones’ own widow, Nancy, personally hired Carothers for the gig, giving him the opportunity to make a living playing music. James now plays several shows at venues in downtown Nashville each week when he’s not on the road. In 2018, James was nominated for an Ameripolitan Award in the “Outlaw Male” category. His hit song “Back to Hank” has received over four million views on Facebook and his Spotify and Apple Music artist profiles have been streamed over one million times combined. This September, James will be releasing his newest album, Still Country, Still King: A Tribute to George Jones. James will also be making his Grand Ole Opry debut this year. Slacker Launches Channel Devoted To Female Country Artists

Slacker Radio

As previously announced last week SLACKER RADIO last night (8/7) officially launched “Woman Crush Everyday” (#WCE), a channel devoted to, and curated by female Country artists. TUESDAY evening’s event was co-hosted by WME and CHANGE THE CONVERSATION, and featuring performances by NATALIE STOVALL, POST MONROE, and LAUREN DUSKI. In addition, the service has unveiled SLACKER Studio, a mobile app allowing hosts and contributors to remotely add music and commentary to SLACKER stations. “We have amazingly talented women making music in NASHVILLE, and they deserve to be heard,” said SLACKER Country Format Captain JESS WRIGHT. “In 2017, more than 97% of the artists who appeared on the year-end Country Top 40 were male. This doesn’t reflect the quality of music created by women; it reflects a lack of support from the gatekeepers of Country music who believe that women have limited commercial appeal. I’m excited that, through SLACKER, we can bring the music of female Country artists directly to our audience, curated by the people who are most passionate about it — the women in NASHVILLE’s music industry.” Added CMT SVP/Strategy LESLIE FRAM, a co-founder of CHANGE THE CONVERSATION, “I’m thrilled that there’s another platform to support female artists. Women have always been the cornerstone of Country music, and their voices need to be heard.” Listen to #WCE Country here.
