“Southern Christmas” Wraps Production in Oklahoma

Ascension Media, in association with BCF Film Group and the Oklahoma Film + Music Office (OF+MO), is pleased to announce the completion of principal photography on the feature film “Southern Christmas”. The production was based in Guthrie with additional filming in Stillwater and Edmond, and utilized the Oklahoma Film Enhancement Rebate Program administered by OF+MO. “Southern Christmas” tells the story of two teenage girls, played by Sierra McCormick (Disney’s “A.N.T. Farm”) and Brighton Sharbino (AMC’s “The Walking Dead”), from different worlds who experience a little Christmas magic and find they have much more in common than they ever imagined. Producer and Director Harvey Lowry happily returned to Oklahoma for yet another film, having previously directed the feature “Monday at 11:01 A.M.”, which also utilized the Oklahoma Film Enhancement Rebate Program in the fall of 2014. “It was an honor to utilize the rebate program and work with the Oklahoma Film + Music Office. I’m very glad to be back in Oklahoma,” said Lowry. “Guthrie was the perfect backdrop for our family-friendly holiday film, ‘Southern Christmas.’” This film is also being produced by Jasmine Fontes, Rachel Meyer and Kelli Kaye. Meyer notes, “Guthrie is one of the most welcoming towns in which I’ve ever stepped foot. We’re looking forward to showcasing this historic gem on screen.” The film features Oklahoma grown talent Joe Don Rooney (Rascal Flatts), Paula Trickey (“Pacific Blue”), and Christian Kane (“Leverage”). It also welcomes the talented Christopher Rich (“Reba”), Tiffany Fallon (“The Girls Next Door”) and Hollywood legends Bo Derek (“10”) and Shelley Long (“Cheers”). The local talent in Oklahoma is outstanding, and the producers are proud to introduce Tisha Alexander Bradford, Ryan Coffey, Parker Ridings, Thatcher Ridings, Bryson Smith and Gavin Taylor. The producers give special acknowledgement to their phenomenal crew whose tireless efforts and skill made principal photography a terrific success. They also acknowledge the many community members and brands that enhanced “Southern Christmas” in front of and behind the camera: American Airlines, Red Bull, Guthrie Chamber of Commerce, the City of Guthrie, Cadence Equestrian Center, the Stillwater Regional Airport, the City of Stillwater, Oklahoma State University and their School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, along with the Oklahoma Film + Music Office. “The growth of our state’s film industry comes with the certainty of a stable film incentive program as evidenced in the return of filmmakers like Harvey Lowry to Oklahoma,” said OF+MO Director Tava Maloy Sofsky. “More films create more sustained jobs for our hard-working local crew as well as growth for the industry as a whole. We’re proud to be working again with Harvey and his incredible team on his second film in Oklahoma, and we’re thankful to our film-friendly communities for welcoming ‘Southern Christmas’ to the state.” About Oklahoma Film + Music Office Created in 1979, The Oklahoma Film + Music Office (OF+MO) strives to share all that Oklahoma has to offer by welcoming filmmakers and music professionals to the state and by creating a network of support to develop Oklahoma’s Continue reading “Southern Christmas” Wraps Production in Oklahoma

Larry Gatlin Writes and Stars in New Musical, QUANAH

LYRIC STAGE PRESENTS THE WORLD PREMIERE OF LARRY GATLIN’S QUANAH Musical Written by and Starring Country Music Legend Larry Gatlin to be Featured April 28 – May 7, 2017 at the Irving Art Center Carpenter Performance Hall in Dallas, Texas Today, Country music legend Larry Gatlin announced the debut of his new musical, Quanah, presented by Lyric Stage.  Larry explains:   “Howdy.  For almost thirty years, I have been working on a musical about Quanah Parker, the last Comanche chief.  It is the story of Quanah, his mother Cynthia Ann Parker, and the Parker family’s settling in Texas and the survival and ascendancy of the great Comanche people.  It is, in part, a tragic, sad, heartbreaking story – a story of war, bloodshed, death and heartbreak – but it is, more importantly, a story celebrating the strength and power of the human spirit.”    “As a kid in west Texas, I had a vivid imagination and I loved to make up stories with which to entertain my family and friends.  For the last 30 years, as I have grown into a crusty old coot, I have allowed my already vivid imagination to run wild – much like Quanah Parker, the last Comanche chief.  We are going to perform this at the Irving Arts Center Carpenter Performance Hall from April 28th through May 7th.  I invite you to come join us, use your imagination and to let our wonderful cast, orchestra and crew tell you this incredible story.”   Keep the Faith, Larry   “P.S. My wife Janis – who is NEVER wrong – believes that it is the best music I have ever written.  Why donchya come to the show and see if I am right about her always being right?  Also, my sweet, beautiful, talented granddaughter Campbell did the pencil drawing of Quanah.  It’s wonderful, don’t ya think?”   “P.P.S. One of the great blessings in my life is that the very best singer that I have ever heard, is going to play the double roles of Peta Nocona, Quanah’s father and Quanah, the last Comanche chief.  HALLELUJAH. Almost 20 years ago, when I heard the background vocals on my solo gospel album, In My Life, I asked Mike Smith, the producer of the album, ‘who are those people singing the background vocals?’  He said, ‘Tanya Goodman Sykes, Michael Sykes, and some kid named David Phelps.’  I said, ‘Wow, that is the best vocal sound I have ever heard that wasn’t sung by someone named Gatlin.’  A couple of years later I heard David Phelps sing with the Gaither Vocal Band and I said to myself, ‘he’s the greatest singer I have ever heard.’  It was true then and it is true now.  It is truly a God thing that David is going to play the double role of Quanah and Peta in our new musical.  I thank God.  I thank David Phelps.  And I thank my old and dear friend, Bill Gaither, for making this happen.” “P.P.P.S. I made my publicist write the Continue reading Larry Gatlin Writes and Stars in New Musical, QUANAH

Brantley Gilbert’s Got Your Working Class Tickets $20 Pavilion Seats Are Being Made Available on Key Amphitheater Shows Somewhere on the Road: As Brantley Gilbert kicks off plans for the summer leg of his The Devil Don’t Sleep Tour, the working class kid from Jefferson, Georgia wants to bring some of his most hardcore, hard-working fans “into the house” for his summer’s party. So rather than merely making fan friendly seats available on the lawn, the back-to-back platinum songwriter’s carving out a chunk of seats under the pavilion – and making them available for just twenty dollars.* Jump straight to the $20 Brantley Gilbert Tickets at www.brantleygilbert.com “Look I love the lawn and how much fun everybody has up there,” the man who won the American Music Award for Favorite Country Album with Just As I Am acknowledges, “but I also know some of my most hardcore fans come for the music. They want to be under the roof, where they can really see and hear the show. I hate that it’s always impossible for the folks in the BG Nation, who’re trying to make ends meet, to get into those seats – so we’re teaming with Live Nation to create a Working Class ticket.” “I know times can be tight, and no matter what you’ve got going on, if you wanna come hear the show, we’ve got you covered.” Tickets for these shows are available on a first-come, first-sold basis. Once they’re gone, they’re done. But for those fans who want to really see the action, and truly hear the band, this is a best of both worlds proposition. With “The Weekend” cresting the Top 10, and the arena portion of The Devil Don’t Sleep Tour rocking, this is one more way for the man who has hit #1 with “Country Music Be Country Wide,” “You Don’t Know Her Like I Do,” “Bottoms Up” and “One Hell of an Amen” – plus writing “My Kind of Party” and the CMA Song of the Year nominee “Dirt Road Anthem” – to bring the fans closer to him. As Entertainment Weekly wrote of Gilbert’s attack, “With swaggering guitars, catchy hooks, and a DGAF attitude, Devil promises to keep the ‘One Hell of an Amen’ singer at the top of the country charts,” while Billboard opined “Merle Haggard was known as the ‘Poet of the Common Man,’ and while some might have their opinions about comparing any modern-day star to the late country legend, one thing is for sure — Brantley Gilbert knows his audience. With a pair of platinum albums and nine of his singles being certified gold or platinum, Gilbert’s music strikes a chord with people.” American Songwriter raved, “Gilbert never fails to deliver southern inspired anthems that make listeners crave the weekend” and touring industry trade Pollstar raved of opening night, “most notably on a brief instrumental honky tonk interlude that allowed the five musicians backing Gilbert to show off their chops, the music was heavily country. In 2016, MT’s debut single “Crazy Last Night” world-premiered on CMT and was selected as Billboard’s Country Songs of the Summer Picks. Hailing from Thayer, Missouri, known as a railroad town, it’s ironic MT is the descendant of the late, great Jimmie Rodgers, known as “The Father of Country Music” who learned his craft around the New Orleans and Northeastern Railroad. At the age of 13, over a Myspace meeting, MT met award-winning producer Michael Knox (Jason Aldean/Thomas Rhett/Kelly Clarkson/Trace Adkins). After a few years of sending songs and ideas back and forth, MT came to Nashville, Tenn. to play a show at Tootsies Orchid Lounge for their first face-to-face meeting. At that time, Knox was hired by peermusic Nashville to help restructure the creative department. After watching MT play a few shows, Knox felt it was time for him to make the move to Nashville as a peermusic songwriter. LITTLE BIG TOWN MAKE HISTORY WITH SOLD OUT “LITTLE BIG TOWN AT THE MOTHER CHURCH” RYMAN RESIDENCY SHOWS First-Ever Year Long Artist Residency Launch At The Ryman Coincides With The Grammy Award- Winning Vocal Group’s New Album, The Breaker 10th “Little Big Town At The Mother Church” Show Added For July 30th Grammy Award-winning vocal group Little Big Town launched their unprecedented year-long artist residency, “Little Big Town at the Mother Church,” from Nashville’s famed Ryman Auditorium this weekend with back-to-back, sold-out shows on Friday and Saturday evening. The reigning CMA and ACM Vocal Group of the Year earned numerous standing ovations as they showcased their award-winning vocals during each nightly performance of their new album, The Breaker. The launch of “Little Big Town at the Mother Church” coincides with the world-wide release of Little Big Town’s seventh studio album, released February 24th, and marks the only time in the venue’s 125-year history to host a year-long artist residency. Band members Karen Fairchild, Phillip Sweet, Kimberly Schlapman, and Jimi Westbrook’s took to the Ryman stage following support acts Brent Cobb (2/24) and Ashley Monroe (2/25) to debut their first, and only, live full-length album performances of The Breaker.  After opening the show with the album’s “optimistic standout” (Sounds Like Nashville) “Happy People,” the band went on to perform every track on their new album from top to bottom– including their current chart-topping #1 song at country radio, “Better Man”–before later trading off lead vocals for several songs including “Beat Up Bible,” “When Someone Stops Loving You,” and the album’s title track, “The Breaker.” The packed set list had the audience on their feet, singing along to every word of the band’s biggest hits, from “Pontoon” to “Girl Crush,” the thirteen week #1 Grammy-winning crossover hit that recently propelled Pain Killer to RIAA-Platinum-status, earning the group their third RIAA-Platinum album certification as a band. Each evening’s special surprise guest appearances–an expected staple of future “Little Big Town at the Mother Church” dates—solicited enormous audience applause as breakout Country artists Sam Hunt and Chris Stapleton (2/24) and powerhouse vocalist Andra Day (2/25) joined Little Big Town on stage. At the close of each show, in contrast, the band earned a different reaction—complete reverence in the form of uninterrupted silence- as the band launched into an unexpected, completely acoustic encore, sans mics, aimed at paying homage to early Ryman Auditorium performances. Saturday’s show also included an additional on-stage surprise, with the band’s announcement from the Ryman stage that a 10th “Little Big Town at the Mother Church” Ryman Residency date has been added for July 30th due to popular demand. Previously announced dates include May 19&20, July 28&29, September 15&16, and November 27th.
