US country sensation Brent Cobb announces UK debut ‘Shine On RainyDay’

Brent Cobb on Country Music News BLog

Georgia native Brent Cobb has announced the release of his new single ‘Shine On Rainy Day’, which is taken from his debut album of the same name, to be released in the UK next year. Having just been on tour with Anderson East and a recent support slot with Chris Stapleton, Brent will be bringing his soulful Southern charm to the UK for a number of dates in January. January 2017 Thurs 26th – The Slaughtered Lamb, London Fri 27th – Castle Hotel , Manchester Sun 29th – O2 ABC, Glasgow Released in the US earlier this year to widespread critical acclaim, Shine On Rainy Day is an album Brent’s been trying to make for a decade and saw him enlist the help of his cousin and fellow Georgian, Dave Cobb, the Grammy Award-winning producer (Chris Stapleton, Jamey Johnson, Sturgill Simpson and Jason Isbell). LISTEN TO THE ALBUM VIA SPOTIFY HERE Brent wanted to record an album that felt Southern, though not the kind of Southern you might expect. Neither Southern rock nor mainstream country, the sound sits somewhere on the wide bandwidth that exists between the two and sees Brent alternating between light and dark by channeling his influences of rural life. Cousin Dave helped him find the right vibe, full of blue-eyed soul, country funk and the kind of swamp boogie sounds that predominated pop in the 1960s and early 1970s. The album carries something of a Southern Gothic narrative, alternating between dark visions and self-deprecating scenes of black humour that bubble up in laugh-or-cry moments. He chose the album’s title after a friend heard ‘Shine On Rainy Day’ following a family tragedy and mentioned how powerful it was to him. “When you have a bad storm that hits, the next day the trees are in full bloom and the grass is greener and lightning cleans the air up,” Brent said. “My friend called me up out of the blue and said that song hit him so hard. It’s talking about a rainy day, they’re going through a real life rainy day.” 2017 is set to be a busy year for Brent. As well as his UK dates in January, ahead of his forthcoming album release, he’ll also be out on the road across the US supporting the likes of Chris Stapleton, The Cadillac Three, Little Big Town, Nikki Lane and playing California’s Stagecoach Festival and the Newport Folk Festival. “…what promises to be Cobb’s breakout LP as a singer-songwriter.”— Rolling Stone “…masterfully understated wit…”— NPR Music “It’s a soft, acoustic ballad, different from what you may have already heard from Cobb. The Georgia-born singer/songwriter has a knack for joyous, energetic songs that celebrate life and the good things in it.”— Noisey “Let me just say that Brent Cobb is pretty damn good.”— Sounds Like Nashville WEBSITE FACEBOOK TWITTER INSTAGRAM

Praise for A Sailor’s Guide To Earth… “…defies categorization, and exceeds expectations…”—Associated Press “It’s hard to believe any other record this year will raise as many eyebrows, invite as many questions, or be as instantly beloved.”—Esquire Magazine “…one of the year’s most impressive albums…”—Los Angeles Times “There’s no real genre category for it, and that’s a good thing. It tries out plenty of different ideas, succeeds at all of them, and presents all of them as a cohesive whole. It’s a total triumph of an album, and it’s also an absolutely singular force.”—Stereogum “Sailor’s Guide is rowdier, more emotionally insular and also far more musically surprising, an album of raw country cut with rich and messy Southern soul and sleek orchestral bombast.”—The New York Times “A Sailor’s Guide to Earth represents a startling change in tone and presents a wealth of rewards for every creative risk.”—Pitchfork “…a spectacular mic drop of a third LP.”—Rolling Stone “Simpson, to the uninitiated, is just about the best county music has to offer, which is more important in these post-Merle days.”—The Washington Post Simpson and his band recently wrapped an extensive sold-out national tour in support of the album. Of the recent show at Nashville’s historic Ryman Auditorium, the Nashville Scene praises, “…Simpson’s performance was a statement: He was there to put in work, and put in work he did,” and went on to assert his, “…raw talent and a mastery of dynamics.” Additionally, over the past eight months, Simpson has performed on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” “The Daily Show with Trevor Noah,” “Conan,” “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” “Late Night with Seth Meyers” and, most recently, “Charlie Rose.” Produced by Simpson, A Sailor’s Guide To Earth was written—beginning to end—as a letter to his first child, who arrived during the summer of 2014.
