Eric Paslay Releases Acoustic With Strings Version of "Angels In This Town"

Story-Behind-the-Song Video of “Angels in This Town” Available Now EMI Records Nashville recording artist Eric Paslay’s new single, “Angels In This Town,” hit radio this week and was met with an amazing response from early believers. Earlier this year, when Eric first started playing the song at shows he was inspired to deliver the message of the song in a tangible way by making visits to local “angels” in the towns he was playing.  So far he has made visits to the Norfolk, NE fire department, Boys and Girls Club of Austin, TX and Toronto, Habitat for Humanity build in Virginia Beach, VA and the Ronald McDonald House at WakeMed in Raleigh, NC.  Upcoming visits are planned throughout the rest of 2016, but will not be announced ahead of time. “As we tour around the country, I’m so thrilled to be doing what we’ve decided to call “Angel Visits.” We’re stopping by different organizations where the employees and volunteers are truly creating miracles and impacting other people’s lives in the best way. The least I can do is go and thank them personally.” said Eric. “Good vibes are contagious, and I hope by visiting places like local Fire Departments, Habitat for Humanity Builds, Children’s Hospitals and so many others, we inspire positivity in each community and beyond. It’s a real honor for me to be around folks who are doing such good in the world.” As a special treat for fans, Eric has begun to put together digital pieces that give a unique and behind-the-scenes look at the making of various songs on the forthcoming album. Fans will get to hear not only from Eric but also the other writers and learn about the process of putting pen-to-paper all the way through finishing a song. A story-behind-the-song video for “Angels in This Town” may be viewed  HERE “Angels in This Town” is available for download at all digital retail outlets. BACK-TO-BACK “SONG OF THE YEAR” NOMINATIONS FOR THE ACCLAIMED SINGER-SONGWRITER – NEW ALBUM THE BIRD & THE RIFLE OUT NOW Lori McKenna’s “Humble & Kind” is nominated for “Song of the Year” at “The 50th Annual CMA Awards.” Recorded and taken to No. 1 by Tim McGraw, “Humble & Kind” is the first song penned by a solo songwriter to be nominated for “Song of the Year” since 2012. The awards show will broadcast live on ABC on Wednesday, November 2 at 8/7pm CST. McKenna wrote the song alone at home while her kids were at school—a loving attempt to impart wisdom, layered over three chords. “I can say it’s one of my favorite songs, mostly because I had my kids in my head the whole time I was trying to write it,” she says. “My kids know that it’s theirs, and it’s nice in that way. It worked out pretty good.” In addition to being recorded by McGraw, “Humble & Kind” appears on McKenna’s acclaimed tenth studio album, The Bird & The Rifle, which is out now on CN Records via Thirty Tigers (purchase here). Produced by Dave Cobb (Jason Isbell, Chris Stapleton), the album was recorded live over ten days in Nashville and has received overwhelming critical praise. Highway Prayer: A Tribute to Adam Carroll

Hot off the press at CountryMusicNewsBlog.com!

HIGHWAY PRAYER: A TRIBUTE TO ADAM CARROLL CELEBRATES SINGULAR TEXAS TUNESMITH ‘Diverse group united by a shared appreciation of a talented writer’ (Rolling Stone) features James McMurtry, Hayes Carll, Slaid Cleaves, The Band of Heathens AUSTIN, TX – Highway Prayer: A Tribute to Adam Carroll, due October 28 on Austin-based Eight 30 Records and produced by label owners Jenni Finlay and Brian T. Atkinson, celebrates a true songwriter’s songwriter, a Texas tunesmith who has inspired both younger and older artists for nearly two decades. Carroll simply captures entire lifetimes among stilled snapshots like few others (“Screen Door,” “Girl with the Dirty Hair”). “I try to find moments that are sublime,” Carroll explains. “They just last a little bit and then you’re back to your regular life and strife, but there are just these perfect little moments.” Evidence: “Black Flag Blues,” “Red Bandana Blues,” “South of Town,” dozens more. Carroll sketches characters with a novelist’s eye (“Errol’s Song”) and a poet’s elegance (“Hi-Fi Love”) as his vivid vignettes frequently turn personal into universal within seconds (“Highway Prayer”). Consider “Rain.” “I’m feeling like a bird dragging through the storm/Feeling like a scarecrow standing in the corn,” the down and defeated narrator declares. “Sometimes you can’t get through, sometimes it just takes two/Sometimes two adds up to nothing.” Such sideways glances define his literate landscapes. “Long compared to the likes of John Prine and Townes Van Zandt,” the Austin Chronicle once raved, “Adam Carroll proves he’s beyond compare.” James McMurtry draws the closest line. “Adam Carroll is like a very young Kris Kristofferson. He writes about things that are older than me,” the iconic tunesmith says. “You get a bunch of guys who more people have heard of to sing someone’s songs, it maybe makes their stock go up, which is fine by me.” Early press strongly hints that will be the case. “It speaks volumes that McMurtry and Hayes Carll and many more all contribute to (this) new homage to Adam Carroll,” Rolling Stone enthuses. “It’s a diverse group united by a shared appreciation of a writer who may be only 42, but who, as McMurtry suggests, is talented beyond his years.” “It’s a diverse group united by a shared appreciation of a writer who may be only 42, but who, as McMurtry suggests, is talented beyond his years.” – Rolling Stone Admittedly, eyebrows raised throughout the Lone Star state and beyond as news spread about this tribute record. After all, as the legendary music magazine notes, the Central Texas-based songwriter has notched only forty-two trips around the sun, a young man by any measure. No matter. Carroll’s deeply observant stories simply deserve wider attention beyond his reverent peers. “Adam’s a songwriter’s songwriter, a unique voice who’s important to a lot of songwriters,” longtime fan Hayes Carll says. “A lot of people are influenced by him. That’s the measure of if you deserve a tribute record: Are there people you have influenced who will come and do it? That’s undoubtably so with Continue reading Highway Prayer: A Tribute to Adam Carroll

Alt. Country Single Release – Sam Newton – Hold You Down

Hot off the press at CountryMusicNewsBlog.com!

A prolific songwriter, Sam Newton has been writing and performing for ten years, working within time-tested folk and traditional country and blues foundations reminiscent of Paul Kelly, Townes Van Zandt and Neil Young. A staple in the Australian Americana Alt-Country scene, Sam’s expressive melodies an d vivid lyrics tell stories of life and death, crime and punishment, love and loss. Born in suburban Sydney to a music-loving family, Sam knew that he was going to be a musician from the very beginning. He pleaded with his parents for guitar lessons at the commencement of High School and wrote his first song 3 weeks later. Now at age 28, Newton has toured nationally 4 times and put out 2 acclaimed releases Hold You Down is a deeply personal song for Sam Newton. Its lyrics come from a place of truth that songwriters often don’t understand until combined with melody and chords. It speaks of emotional turmoil and the heavy burden caused by mental illness. Shimmery electric guitars, heavy piano chords, driving rhythms and intricate acoustic guitar strumming lead the listener on an emotional rollercoaster, underpinned by a crying pedal steel buried within the mix. Throughout this three-minute journey, an optimistic singer is standing on the outside pleading through chorus, “I can tell you now there are people who care”.
