Country Music Top Topics 2011

Top Posts Our Readers Loved The Most for 2011! #1 Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton From their wedding photos to wedding details to album releases, it is safe to say that Blake and Miranda topped the charts at number 1. Blake gained many fans for himself and country music in general when he showed the world his down-home, don’t give a crap attitude on the hit new show The Voice! Miranda joined a few girls to become the Pistol Annies. With the same attitude as her husband, these three took the world by storm with their outspoken lyrics and solid harmonies! #2 Award Shows We had the CMAs, the CMT Awards, the ACMs and the ACAs, not to mention other non-country based shows (Peoples Choice, Grammy, Teen Choice, Etc.) and each show gave us moments that we will remember for years to come! I would say that the recognition given to the artists that won was pretty spaced out. An artist might have done a great job at taking home the majority of the trophies at one particular show, but no one was the top dog at every show. That seems right on the money considering each award show has different ways of voting, whether its fan based or industry votes. Another thing that was interesting about the award shows this year was the number of surprise performances. Who would have ever thought we would see Ludacris (the rapper) at a country based award show?! #3 Summer Tours This year was no different than any other when it came to summer tours! One of the first things that comes to mind when dreaming about the next summer when I’m looking outside at 2 feet of snow on the ground is what shows I will be lucky enough to catch! This year two major summer tours were the return of Kenny Chesney’s Goin’ Coastal and Tim McGraw’s Emotional Traffic! Along with them there were other country superstars headlining all over the country and those fabulous festivals that included multiple artists that lasted almost a week! Shows are slowly beginning to be announced for Summer 2012, so everyone be sure to keep your eyes and ears open for your favorite artists coming to a stadium or bar near you!

Blake Shelton’s Dad – The Details

It was an emotional night for Blake Shelton as he accepted his ACA for Music Video of the Year, and performed a slightly choked up version of “God Gave Me You” last night. In his acceptance speech Blake dedicated the award to his father Ricky who he said had been having a hard time the last few weeks. For those of us sending our well-wishes, here’s what we’re up against. Blake Shelton’s spokeswoman, Tree Paine, told CNN the singer’s father had been taken to a hospital with pneumonia that evening. After the show, Shelton immediately flew home to Oklahoma to be with his family. “Thanks to every one of y’all who took time to vote for me for the ACAs,” he tweeted as he left the venue. “And for all the thoughts and prayers for dad! He’s happy about it!” Blake, you know our hearts are with you, and I’m sure your daddy will knock that pneumonia right in the rear, cause that’s what these Oklahoma men do! Cheers! ~WC~

Blake Shelton Footloose Live

Blake Shelton Performs Footloose for CMT Invitation Only. You may have gotten a chance to watch Blake Shelton perform “Footloose” live on the 2011 CMA Awards, but that’s not the only place Shelton has been performing this track! In a recent performance for a much smaller audience, Blake performed his new, hit cover of the classic for CMT’s “Invitation Only“ on Monday, November 14th. The song is quite catchy in its original format, but I have to say, Shelton gives a certain spice to the song you simply will not find in the classic version. So, if you haven’t had a chance yet, check out Blake’s version of “Footloose“, and see if it makes you want to get up and shake it! Blake Shelton Well Lit & Amplified 2012 Tour

Blake Shelton Gearing Up for 2012 Well Lit & Amplified Tour Kicking- Off In January! Well, for a second there we thought that Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert were going to be creating an album together (still holding for that!). This led some of us in the newsroom here at CMNB to think that this might also lead to a tour including both Shelton and Lambert, but that seems to be a bit of a pipe dream at the moment as well. There really isn’t too much of a reason to be that disappointed though because it looks like we will still be getting a brand new tour from Blake! Blake will be kicking off his 2012 Well Lit & Amplified Tour on January 21st in Billings, MT. The tour will run with 27 concert dates through March with its closing show at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. Justin Moore and NBC’s The Voice finalist Dia Frampton (whom Blake coached on last season of The Voice) will be joining the tour as opening acts. For more details on ticket info click here.

Blake Shelton Footloose Video

Check Out Blake Shelton’s Rendition of the Classic Footloose! Word on the street has it that when Blake Shelton was approached to get involved with the new Footloose project, he was asked to contribute a song of his own, and Blake responded he would only participate if he could have the title track. I have to say, I sure am glad he put his foot (no pun intended) down about that! Blake’s rendition of the original Footloose song is just as firey and fun as the original, but with a little extra Shelton-esque umph added to the mix. This version definitely has a little more twang than original, and it’s definitely an improvement. See if you like Shelton’s version as much as I do. Watch the Video Here! Country Represents at MTV O Music Awards 2

Taylor Swift, Blake Shelton and Dolly Parton Nominated for O Music Awards 2. Taylor Swift, Blake Shelton and Dolly Parton are the representative group holding the fort for country music at the next round of “O Music Awards” hosted by MTV. The “O Music Awards” (as you are no doubt wondering by now) is a strange but (arguably) inevitable development of digital and web culture. MTV is essentially honoring musical artists online activities, typically relating to promotion or contacting fans. The “O” literally stands for “offbeat, outrageous, online”. So, this is not your average award show, and the categories are less than average as well. Taylor is nominated in the “Fan Army FTW” category for her “Taylor Nation” legion of fans, and Blake Shelton (we really should not be surprised here) is nominated for “Must Follow Artist On Twitter”. The one really interesting part of this is Dolly’s nomination. She pops up in the “Best Vintage Viral Video” for “Jolene“. Taylor and Blake’s nominations make complete sense, but Dolly’s nomination is especially important. It really demonstrates how classic music can live forever, and how this music can be relived and re-experienced through digital technology. Even though this is kind of a wacky award show, it is fun to see that amidst all the really random categories and equally random nominations, a piece of classic, solid country made it in.
