45th Annual CMA Nominees Announcement Date Set

Nominees for the 45th Annual CMAs To Be Announced September 6th! The 2011 CMA Awards are quickly approaching, and it’s almost time to find out who all the nominees are going to be! We here at the CMNB newsroom, as members of the Country Music Association, have already had the opportunity to weigh in on the nomination process, and we are incredibly excited to who made it into the final nominations! The announcement of the nominees will take place Tuesday, September 6th from two different locations. The Band Perry and Jake Owen will announce the final nominees of the first five categories at 8:30am on ABC‘s Good Morning America. This will be followed by a performance of “Barefoot Blue Jean Night” by Owen!. The nominees in the last seven categories will be announced from a press conference at the Ryman in Nashville by Jerrod Niemann and Thompson Square. (Also in NASHVILLE, duo The Janedear Girls will announce the finalists for the 2011 CMA Broadcast Award Personality and Radio Station of the Year in four categories (small, medium, large, and major markets), as well as the finalists for the CMA National Broadcast Personality.) Stay tuned because as soon as the nominees are announced we will have them posted for you! The 45th Annual Country Music Association Awards will be hosted by Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley and air at 7pm on Wednesday, November 9th at 7pm.

Martina McBride Covers Love Song

Martina McBride Shares Her Rendition of One of Her Personal Favorites. In a recently taped performance for CMT Unplugged, Martina McBride covered Sara Bareilles‘ “Love Song“. McBride claims that the song is one of her favorites, and it is clear through the performance that she truly has a connection to this song. Despite not changing any of the instrumentals (i.e. there were no fiddles or banjos added), Martina really makes this song her own, and packs it full of emotion. I think she definitely does the song, which was Bareilles’ first Number 1 single, plenty of justice. Check out the video here and weigh in on what you think of the song and Martina’s performance! McBride is not the only country star currently giving Sara Bareilles some love. Bareilles is touring alongside Sugarland on their Incredible Machine tour.

Lady Antebellum on Billboard Cover

Lady Antebellum Featured in Next Issue of Billboard Magazine. With the upcoming release of their third album, Own the Night, quickly approaching (release date is September 13!), we’ve been talking about Lady Antebellum a lot this week! But it turns out, we’re not the only ones who can’t stop thinking about Lady A! The trio is featured in the latest issue of the music industry magazine, Billboard. The feature is titled “Country’s Sexiest Success Story Is Back“, and while I’m not sure if “sexiest” is the most applicable adjective, “success story” is spot on! Since 2006 when Hillary Scott, Dave Haywood and Charles Kelley first formed the group, they have released two successful albums (The second of which sold 3.6 million copies and spawned the immensely popular cross-over hit, “Need You Now“.) and won 5 Grammys! In the article, Lady A sat down in Nashville to discuss the experiences over their career, their success and all that comes along with it! Lauren has really hit the ground running since winning American Idol runner-up for Season 10. Yet, she has been so gracious and remained so humble, despite her quick rise to fame as one of America’s new country darlings, that it is easy to forget just how new she is to this whole experience. Sara Evans My Heart Can’t Tell You No Video

Sara Evans Offers 3 Versions of of New Video for Single My Heart Can’t Tell You No. Sara Evans has been experiencing huge success since her return to the country music scene following a six year hiatus. She returned with the release of her album Stronger which has generated significant buzz with the industry and her fans alike. The lead single off the album “A Little Bit Stronger” in particular has helped catapult Sara back into the spotlight with ease. Her most recent single My Heart Can’t Tell You No, a cover of the 1980’s version originally performed by Rod Stewart, is as filled with emotion and poignancy as A Little Bit Stronger. Evans has made this song her own though by creating a video with 3 alternate endings which premiered through 3 separate internet outlets on August 22nd. The video portrays a woman who is in a relationship with a man who is already married to another woman. Throughout the video it is clear this woman is trying to separate herself from this man, but it is proving to be a difficult and painful process. Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber Perform Together

Justin Bieber Sings Surprise Song with Taylor Swift at LA Performance. Taylor Swift is currently in the midst of the North American leg of her Speak Now world tour, and last night she began the first of four sold-out shows in Los Angeles. At last night’s concert, Swift provided a little extra bit of entertainment for her, no doubt primarily female and teenage, (I’m judging this from the screaming in the video below) fans in the form of Justin Bieber. Bieber as you may know is a teenage pop sensation being catapulted to fame and stardom by throngs upon throngs of screaming, hormonal teenage girls. Swift and Bieber performed one song together, Bieber’s hit song “Baby“, and they definitely pleased the crowd. “You think you’ve heard loud screaming in your life..then @justinbieber comes out and does a surprise song during your show. Woah. Unreal.” Taylor Swift tweeted post-performance So, the fans were happy (clearly), and that is all fine and good. But I really want to stop here and raise a question: what is going on with the country music world and Justin Bieber? At the 2011 CMT Music Awards Bieber was the recipient of the first award for the evening for his collaboration with Rascal Flatts on “That Should Be Me“. Not long after that CMT posted an article claiming something along the lines of that all Bieber needed was a banjo, and he could qualify as a country artist. Now, he is popping up and performing his songs at Taylor Swift’s concerts. Granted, Taylor Swift is not seen by many as strictly a country artist. She has always had a little bit of pop crossover, which has honestly increased as her career has progressed as is evident with her recent single The Story of Us. But still, what is the deal? I think what is bothering me the most is CMT’s heavy endorsement of Bieber. You may or may not know this, but CMT is currently owned by the MTV Networks. This definitely explains why Ludacris popped up to perform with Jason Aldean in the finale of the 2011 CMT Music Awards, and why shows like Texas Women and Sweet Home Alabama are being produced (these shows follow reality formulas made popular by MTV). Some may argue that this is MTV’s way of marketing to and providing entertainment to a specific audience (you, the country music fan). What I am afraid of however, is that this demonstrates that networks like CMT are slowly trying to change and shape the country fan’s taste instead of providing original entertainment that country music fans can relate to. So, what we end up with is “country” versions of programming or music from other genres instead of something that is genuinely country. Lady Antebellum Own The Night

A Behind The Scenes Look at Lady A’s Upcoming Album and Tour! Lady Antebellum‘s upcoming album Own The Night will release in less than a month. The album will be available to fans on Tuesday, September 13th. Of the twelve tracks featured on this album, the group’s single “Just A Kiss” has already become a success in the industry and with fans! All three of the band members were completely involved in the process of creating this album from writing 10 out of the 12 songs on the track listing to the co-producer credit each claims. Lauren Alaina Debut Album Release

New Details On Lauren Alaina’s Upcoming Album Release! We’ve had our eye on Lauren Alaina since her runner-up win on Season 10 of American Idol this Spring, and she has been accomplishing quite a bit! From her performances at the Grand Ole Opry and CMA Fest in Nashville in June to touring with American Idol Live to appearances on the CMT Music Awards and CMA Music Festival: Country’s Night to Rock, America clearly can not get enough of this girl! Believe it or not among all this activity, Lauren has released a debut music video, and has given a little more detail on her upcoming album! The album is titled Wildflower and will be released Tuesday, October 11th. Lauren looked for songs that would provide a spectrum of pace from slow to fast for her debut album in hopes that it would have a little something for everyone! “I feel like it has a flavor for everybody. It’s a mixture of all different songs, so I hope it will appeal to all different kinds of people. There are fast songs for people who like up-tempos that you can dance to, and there are also tearjerkers for people who like slower ballads. I tried to get songs that are all a little different so that we could bring a fresh feel to each and every song.” -Lauren Alaina One thing that can be said for Lauren is that despite the onslaught of publicity, attention, and a whole horde of fans, she is still staying rather level headed and remains gracious to those who helped put her in her current position. New Details on Scotty McCreery’s Debut Album Release! Ever since Scotty McCreery won the 10th season of American Idol, there have been rumors, hints and not a whole lot of details floating around about the new singer’s debut album. Well, finally, new details have been released about the upcoming album! The album is titled Clear As Day and is slated for a Tuesday, October 4th release date. While Scotty is not quite to the song-writing stage in his career, he chose a collection of songs, including his already popular single “I Love You This Big“, which he feels represents the style of country music he loves and relates to. “We’ve got songs on it from some of the best songwriters in country music. I’m so fortunate to have so many talented people contributing to my first album…It has some old country influences and elements, but it also has a contemporary feel with fun up-tempo songs…It’s a good mixture. You can hear some of the influences that I grew up with, like Hank Williams, Conway Twitty and Merle Haggard…I chose these songs because they mean a lot to me.” -Scotty McCreery I have definitely been openly skeptical of Scotty and his skill level since before his American Idol win. However, I must say I am impressed with how he has handled himself publicly in the onslaught of publicity, attention and chaos of the past few months.
