Taylor Swift became one of country-pop’s brightest (and youngest) faces in 2006, when the 16-year-old singer released her first record. Although new to the American public, Swift had been playing since early childhood, taking inspiration and encouragement from her opera-singing grandmother. She sang “The Star-Spangled Banner” before a Philadelphia 76ers game at the age of 11; the following year, she began practicing her guitar skills for several hours each day, only stopping when her fingers started to bleed. Swift’s parents realized their child’s dedication and began making regular visits to Nashville, TN, where Swift would perform casually and meet with songwriters in the area. The family then decided to move from their native Pennsylvania to an outlying Nashville suburb, which accelerated Swift’s career.

While performing at the intimate Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, Swift caught the eye of songs industry veteran Scott Borchetta, who signed her to his newly formed label. Swift joined the roster at Big Machine Records and released her debut single, “Tim McGraw,” in August 2006. The song drew upon her experience as a lovelorn high-school student, a theme that Swift revisited throughout her self-titled debut album. issued in late 2008, Taylor Swift catapulted the young songwriter to stardom, spawning a handful of hits (five consecutive Top Ten singles, a new record for a female solo artist) during earning multi-platinum sales. Swift also received a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist, an award she ultimately lost to Amy Winehouse. Two subsequent EPs — Sounds of the Season: The Taylor Swift Holiday Collection and Beautiful Eyes — helped maintain Swift’s popularity while whetting public demand for her sophomore release, Fearless, which arrived in November 2008.

Premiering just a week before the new release (on October 22), Swift fans get a taste of her new style. “State of Grace” is pretty catchy and has a fun beat. However, I’m starting to get a little worried that Taylor has traded in her country roots for a pop career. Now don’t get me wrong, I like when an artist tries out a new style, but I know some of us country music fans want a reminder of that “Tim McGraw” and “Teardrops on My Guitar” style we love. Yesterday morning on Good Morning America, Taylor Swift debuted the third single, “I Knew You Were Trouble” from her upcoming album RED. Annnnnnnnnd, like the other two singles she’s previewed so far, this song isn’t country either. Its not a bad song, but there’s dubstep in it which I’m thinking country fans may not take too much of a shine too. I’m really wondering if Swift is trying to stay on the country platform at all. The Official Music Video For Taylor Swift’s “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.” So the official music video for Taylor Swift‘s current single, and first release from her new album, Red, is here. “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” definitely has more of a pop sound than country, obviously. But, the music video for this just makes me say…huh? The band is dressed up as different animals, there are a few random dance scenes and Swift looks like she might have still been angry when this was shot (a lot of intense rolling of the eyes). However, the message of the song has already struck a chord with many. Especially seeing how Swift set a record for highest digital sales in a week for a song by a woman! In association with Covergirl, Chegg and Papa John’s, Swift is participating in the upcoming season of VH1’s Storytellers. The reality series features artists performing in front of a group of fans in an intimate setting in which they share details and insight in their lives and careers, and Swift needs to find her audience! Taylor will perform her acoustic set for the winning college or high school this Fall as part of the series. Any accredited college or high school in the 48 continental U.S. is eligible to participate, and applicants have until September 23rd to throw their hat in the ring. Taylor Swift’s Recently Debuted Single Sets A New Record! Last week Taylor Swift announced LIVE from Nashville via a special Livestream all the details about her new album, Red, set to drop in October (Read the complete recap!). At the conclusion of the live YouTube webchat, Swift debuted the first single off of her album, “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together“, and moments later it was available to purchase through the usual digital channels. No surprise here, but that single has officially set the record in for highest digital sales in a week for a song by a woman! As of August 19th, Taylor had sold 623,000 copies, and as a result debuted in the number one spot on Billboard‘s Digital Songs Chart. If you’ve heard the song, then you know it’s not exactly (or at all) a country tune. But, she’s still a country singer, and I’m sure there will be more than a couple country music singles on the Red. I guess, we will see!

Get Details On Taylor Swift’s New Album Red Via Live Chat! Tonight Taylor Swift hosted a LIVE google chat to make some very important announcements! We had our guesses on what she had up her sleeve, and we’re happy to say that…we are NOT disappointed! Taylor answered questions from fans who had gathered in person from around the world to be a part of the chat broadcast in Nashville, and responded to fans from Brazil to Sweden via google chat! She had a lot of info to share and you can catch the recap below! Basically, Swift let everyone know that she will be releasing a brand new album on October 22nd (two whole years in the making) titled Red that will include 16 tracks! Right off the bat she had a lot to say about the inspiration for the album saying: “my world kind of becomes a big storyboard…and everyone in it has the potential to become characters…” -Taylor Swift She also let us know that the meaning behind the title “red” comes from the strong emotions she has (or had) regarding what she referred to as “semi-toxic relationships” she’s experienced. But her relationships aren’t the only ones ending up as lyrics, Swift suggests she pulled from the experiences she watched her friends go through too. Additionally, Taylor addressed the collaborative effort behind the album, discussing how many of the songs are co-written. Letting fans know that she got to work with some of her favorite people in the industry, Swift filled us in on how she wanted to move in a different direction from her last album, Speak Now. Spoiler: one of the people she collaborated with is Ed Sheeran, and the song they worked on was recorded as a duet! (I wonder if there are any OTHER duets…hmmmm….) From other answers to fan questions we learned that Taylor will be globe trotting pretty soon hitting up lots of different place, specifically including NYC during the release week of her album. We also got an inside track on what its like to be in the spotlight and deal with “false rumors”. Ooooooh weeee, that’s a lot of info! On top of all that, to conclude the chat, Taylor debuted (LIVE) her brand new single, “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together“. Admittedly, this is not a country song, but much more pop…even for Tswift. Yet, I still have faith there will be at least a few country hits out of the 16 total songs on the upcoming album! Major Taylor Swift Announcement

Explore the possibilities behind Taylor Swift’s live webchat with us! The anticipation is killing us as we wait for tomorrow to roll around. As you probably already know, Taylor Swift took to YouTube last week to invite fans to a special live webchat event so that she can share some big news. Now we’ve spent the last week combing the web to see if we can guess the announcement. Heck, some of us are even placing bets on what it will be. Here’s what we’ve got so far: We believe that Taylor will be announcing the release date for her new album, and that date will be before September 30th (In order for an album to be considered for a 2013 Grammy, it has to be released by September 30th this year). We also believe that the first leg of her accompanying tour will be announced, with all secondary market (mid-sized cities) dates, and that tour will most likely begin in early November, with a major-market (big city) tour to follow in the spring. She could be announcing an engagement to her latest love Conor Kennedy (paired with her sudden publicity around this relationship and the purchase of a $4.9Million dollar home in the Kennedy compound this isn’t so far-fetched.) She could also be sharing the news of her upcoming starring role in the film “Girls Like Us” where she will play the part of Joni Mitchell. Taylor Swift Cleans Up 2012 Teen Choice Awards with Five Wins! Taylor Swift won five awards at the fan voted 2012 Teen Choice Awards in California last night! She received awards in categories competing with both country stars and stars from multiple other genres including Choice Female Artist, Single by a Female Artist for “Eyes Open”, Female Country Artist, Country Song for “Sparks Fly” and (weird category, here) Movie Voice for playing Audrey in Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax. This round of wins sets Taylor as the record holder for most Teen Choice Awards…ever…with twenty total. Gracious as always, Swift’s Facebook status this morning read: “5 Teen Choice Awards?! I’m so happy I’m so happy I’m so happy I’m so happy I’m so happy– thank you so much for voting!” Congrats to Taylor on yet another landslides win.
