Rosie and Me: Country Music Around the World

Rosie and Me, Taking a Closer Look at Artists from Around the World. For obvious reasons, we spend a lot of time keeping up with the country and folk artists here in the good ole U.S. of A. But there are a lot of them out there in the lands beyond our borders too. These musicians and performers are talented and gifted, and we’d like to take the time to give them a bit of a shout-out! To kick off what will hopefully be a weekly post, I have chosen a group that will be featured at next week’s SXSW (March 13th – 18th), Rosie and Me. They’re from Brazil and include, Rosanne Machado (vocals/acoustic guitars/banjo), Ivan Camargo (acoustic guitars), Thomas Kossar (electric guitars), Guilherme Miranda (bass guitars) and Tiago Barbosa (drums/perc). They’re music is not country (definitely not in a Carrie Underwood or Jason Aldean kind of way). Their brand of music is folk, and its even kind of a pop infused folk. It has an honest, soul-touching honesty to it, and you can’t deny that Machado knows how to play that banjo! So far they’ve released a 5-track EP, Bird and Whale and full 10-track album, Arrow of My Ways. You can hear the first track of the album in the video below, and let us know what ya think. Less than a year after achieving runner-up on American Idol, Lauren Alaina is returning to the show that placed her front and center in the country music spotlight to perform her single, “Georgia Peaches“! No doubt, Alaina’s presence will remind contestants just what kind of future they could have by winning this season’s prized status! You can catch Lauren’s performance during the Thursday, March 8th episode on FOX. Check local listings for channels and times. Lady Antebellum New Video for Single Dancin’ Away With My Heart. Lady Antebellum‘s have released a video for their nostalgic single “Dancin’ Away With My Heart“. For the most part, this video is really simple. It mostly just utilizes footage of the trio performing the song at concerts with a little backstage footage mixed in. I think fans will definitely get a kick out of the video’s open though. Each of the Lady A’s members shares a memory of their first dance and which song they were dancin’ to! Bill Gentry’s Sexy Song Has a Racy Video to Match! I don’t know how this song flew under my musical radar, but I’m sure glad someone finally brought Bill Gentry‘s This Letter to my attention. I love a song with a good story and a good twist, and this one’s got both! The chorus is just a little bit sexy, and the video heats things up right along side it! If you like your country on the hotter end of the spectrum, I think you’ll like this one! At the same time though, there really is a sweet message at the center of this song! Garth Brooks The Dance, JT Hodges Cover

Garth Brooks’ The Dance Gets A Little Love From JT Hodges. JT Hodges has taken on the Garth Brooks classic, “The Dance“. He did this special recording just for Valentine’s Day as a kind of Valentine to all his fans. I know, we’re getting this up a day late, but it’s better late than never, right? Besides this song is a classic, and its worth taking a listen any ole day! Additionally, Hodges has released another single, “Goodbyes Made You Mine“, and it’s currently available on iTunes. This track has that kind of rock undertone that you can find in his other songs, but it still maintains an almost sweet sentiment. One of the things I really like about JT is the genuine quality in his voice, that gives an original feel to his music that you don’t get from a lot of singers. Check Out The Video for Sugarland’s “Run”. I don’t know if you had a chance to catch the live performance of Sugarland‘s “Run” featuring Matt Nathanson at last year’s CMA Awards…but if you didn’t, you missed out. It was one of the best performances of the night. Well, it was one of my favorites at least! There is just something about the lyrics in this song and the way Jennifer Nettles and Nathanson perform this duet together that is absolutely irresistible! In case you did miss the CMA performance, or you haven’t had the opportunity to catch Sugarland live, they have released the video for “Run” for fans to enjoy! This vocal powerhouse does a solid job in her rendition, and I’m just gonna go ahead and say that Miranda and the other Annies ladies would be proud of this version! The country music scene has been abuzz with the news of Taylor Swift‘s audition and subsequent offer to play a role in the upcoming film adaptation of the classic novel turned Broadway production, Les Miserables.
