Kenny Chesney Sun City Carnival Tour Review

Kenny Chesney played to a sold out arena Saturday night at the Sprint Center in Kansas City. The audience was mostly ladies, several decked out in cut off jean shorts and cowboy boots. Also noticeable were quite a few men who could easily be categorized as “Parrot Heads” aka Jimmy Buffett fans, who wore button down tropical shirts. The crowd was explosive as Kenny made his entrance on a flying chair of sorts during the first song, “She Thinks My Tractor is Sexy.” He swung in just barely out of reach of the audience. After taking his place on the stage, the songs seemed to fly by. Kenny didn’t spend a much time between songs interacting with the audience which was a slight letdown. The energy of the show was great though and lasted throughout his entire performance, which ran a little less than two hours. Highlights of the show included “Don’t Happen Twice,” “Beer in Mexico,” and “Back Where I Come From,” in which the large screen behind the stage featured several photographs of Missouri, the Kansas City Chiefs, and the Kansas City Royals. Backing Kenny was a large band which included a four-piece horn section. The music was a great mix of classic rock, country, and pop music. Kenny included quite a few covers in his set, ending the show with “Jack and Diane” prior to the encore. For the encore, Kenny sang “Don’t Blink” and then the band played “Carry on My Wayward Son” by Kansas while he signed autographs before exiting the stage. Oak Ridge Boys – Seven Nation Army?

The Oak Ridge Boys cover White Stripes’ “Seven Nation Army” The Oak Ridge Boys are coming out of quiet solitude with a surprising teaser. From the upcoming new album “The Boys Are Back” (May, 2009), the boys cover The White Stripes’ hit “Seven Nation Army”.I personally am not sure if this is dance/disco or if it’s more of a rock opera sound, but I do know it’s interesting to see that the boys can take on a tune like this and make it their own. I just don’t know how well it will be received by their core audience. Take a listen and weigh in your thoughts in the comments below. Darius Rucker Shines a Light on DonorsChoose

Darius Rucker has donated his birthday to DonorsChoose.org, an organization that helps individual teachers gain funding for school programs. Darius Rucker has joined in on my absolute favorite charity organization DonorsChoose by creating his very own Birthday Giving Page to help fund public education programs nationwide. For those not familiar with DonorsChoose, I URGE you to go check it out now! From the Press Release: Capital Records Nashville artist Darius Rucker of Hootie & The Blowfish has donated his birthday (tomorrow, May 13) to innovative education charity DonorsChoose.org as part of the The Great Give-Back Birthday. See his birthday giving page here. The new campaign invites individuals to donate their birthdays to support high-need public school classrooms nationwide. Here’s how it works: birthday donors create custom birthday giving pages at www.DonorsChoose.org/Birthday, then select their favorite classroom projects submitted by public school teachers, and then invite friends and family to donate to those projects in honor of their birthdays. To date, donors have funded over $30 million worth of materials for nearly 2 million students across the country at DonorsChoose.org. At DonorsChoose.org, teachers submit projects proposals for materials and experiences their students – many low-income – need to learn. These ideas become classroom reality when everyday citizens choose projects to fund. In addition to Rucker, Stephen Colbert has also donated his birthday to DonorsChoose.org.
