(July 25, 2016) – Every year, a man with a white beard goes city to city giving the gift of Christmas joy, and his name is… William Lee Golden (were you expecting someone else?). For 27 years now, Country Music Hall of Fame members The Oak Ridge Boys have been a part of their fans’ holiday seasons with their annual Christmas tour. This year, the award-winning group will play to packed houses across America during the 2016 Christmas Celebration tour, which will take the group to two-dozen cities in 16 states, from the East to West Coast, November 1 through December 22 (see schedule below). A mixture of traditional and contemporary songs—including religious, romantic and fun holiday tunes—makes up the set list, which includes songs from the Oaks’ six bestselling Christmas CDs. A highlight of the evening is the much-loved ‘rocking chair’ segment where each BOY rocks by the fireplace and shares personal thoughts about Christmas. Oaks’ lead singer, Duane Allen, says, “Christmas is my favorite time of year. I love the positive things about the season…. the joy, happiness, giving, sharing, time with family, and gifts. The beautiful lights and decorations. Christmas music. Special food. And most of all the true meaning, which, of course, is celebrating the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. “Every year I look forward to taking our Christmas tour all over the USA. I hope everyone will come out this year and celebrate Christmas with The Oak Ridge Boys.” Known for their iconic and multi-platinum selling hit “Elvira,” along with other chart-toppers like “Bobbie Sue,” “Thank God For Kids,” and “Leaving Louisiana In The Broad Daylight,” The Oak Ridge Boys have achieved a decorated career, winning five GRAMMY® Awards, and multiple CMA, ACM and Dove Awards for their cross-over brand of pop, country and gospel music that spans multiple generations. Oak Ridge Boys Sang For President George Bush While He Is Being Hospitalized. The Oak Ridge Boys have had many requests throughout their career, but a few days ago that got one they would never forget. President George Bush has been hospitalized for over a month and Barbara thought a call from the Oak Ridge Boys would be just the thing to lift his spirits. “Friday, The Oak Ridge Boys received the daily report from President Bush (41’s) staff. The report of his health was that he was improving each day. Then, we received another message, Barbara Bush requested that we call the President and sing to him! All of the Oak Ridge Boys are on vacation, but we all headed to our office upon hearing of this request. We called the President and sang for him. He asked to hear Elvira, so we sang that for him, and then we sang one verse of Amazing Grace.” – Duane Allen, The Oak Ridge Boys It is great to hear the President Bush is doing better and that the Oak Ridge Boys brightened his day!
The Oak Ridge Boys Debut New Christmas CD and Launch Tour! The Oak Ridge Boys are getting into the full swing of the holiday spirit this season by not only releasing a new Christmas album, but also launching new tour dates! The album, titled Christmas Time’s A-Coming, will release tomorrow, September 25th! This release marks the groups sixth holiday release, but that doesn’t make it any less special to them. “The Oak Ridge Boys love Christmas music. For us, Christmas is about family, home, singing, happiness, love, kids and gifts. But, the main thing Christmas is about is the birth of Jesus Christ; when time quit numbering backwards and started counting forward. No other man has ever walked this Earth who reversed time. So, although we love singing the fun songs, the spiritual songs about “the birth” are very real for The Oak Ridge Boys,” Duane Allen, Oak Ridge Boys, lead singer. The Oak Ridge Boys cover White Stripes’ “Seven Nation Army” The Oak Ridge Boys are coming out of quiet solitude with a surprising teaser. From the upcoming new album “The Boys Are Back” (May, 2009), the boys cover The White Stripes’ hit “Seven Nation Army”.I personally am not sure if this is dance/disco or if it’s more of a rock opera sound, but I do know it’s interesting to see that the boys can take on a tune like this and make it their own. I just don’t know how well it will be received by their core audience. Take a listen and weigh in your thoughts in the comments below.
