Darius Rucker Shines a Light on DonorsChoose

Darius Rucker has donated his birthday to DonorsChoose.org, an organization that helps individual teachers gain funding for school programs. Darius Rucker has joined in on my absolute favorite charity organization DonorsChoose by creating his very own Birthday Giving Page to help fund public education programs nationwide. For those not familiar with DonorsChoose, I URGE you to go check it out now! From the Press Release: Capital Records Nashville artist Darius Rucker of Hootie & The Blowfish has donated his birthday (tomorrow, May 13) to innovative education charity DonorsChoose.org as part of the The Great Give-Back Birthday. See his birthday giving page here. The new campaign invites individuals to donate their birthdays to support high-need public school classrooms nationwide. Here’s how it works: birthday donors create custom birthday giving pages at www.DonorsChoose.org/Birthday, then select their favorite classroom projects submitted by public school teachers, and then invite friends and family to donate to those projects in honor of their birthdays. To date, donors have funded over $30 million worth of materials for nearly 2 million students across the country at DonorsChoose.org. At DonorsChoose.org, teachers submit projects proposals for materials and experiences their students – many low-income – need to learn. These ideas become classroom reality when everyday citizens choose projects to fund. In addition to Rucker, Stephen Colbert has also donated his birthday to DonorsChoose.org. Miley Cyrus and Billy Ray up close with AOL

Miley Cyrus teams up with father Billy Ray Cyrus for a very special AOL Session performance Miley Cyrus is killing the billboard charts with her current hit single “The Climb” and at the same time she’s dominating the box office with her newly released film “Hannah Montana: The Movie“, and now in a special performance at AOL Sessions, Miley demonstrates that she’s more than just a tweener pop icon. Miley slips out of the manufactured rockstar  image and lets a truly special and authentic performance shine through. I haven’t ever been a Miley fan myself, perhaps because having two young daughters has just led me to become supersaturated with her material, so this performance caught me off guard in such a surprisingly good way. Tell me what you think? Has Miley channeled a little Stevie Nicks on the stage or what? Catch more of this Miley Cyrus AOL Session now!Country Music Photo Gallery

Charlie Daniels Band Performs in Iraq

Charlie Daniels Band stops at Joint Base Balad in Iraq as part of the Stars and Stripes tour. Sharing classic favorites such as “Dixie On My Mind”, “Simple Man”, and “In America”, Charlie shows his support for the troops in a special performance at Sustainer Theater April 17th. The band also payed tribute to Johnny Cash, performing “Folsom Prison Blues” and handed out over 1,000 hand-autographed photos to the troops. “We are here to perform for Balad because we want to; we care about what you all are doing over here,” Daniels said prior to the show. “I just want to do my part, because I can’t carry a gun, I can’t go and fight – I’m too old. But I can come and perform for you all and, if it helps you all do what you do, then I’m happy. “This is a special audience [of military members]; they can’t go out and get concert tickets and see a concert anytime they want to,” the legendary musician continued. “There are a lot of things they can’t do. You can’t go off base; you can’t take a plane, or drive down to Florida for the weekend, or go fishing. You’re stuck here inside the wire. That’s a big commitment you guys volunteer to make. You come here because you want to be here. I’m here to support you and tell you all, ‘you’re doing a great job.’” “Charlie Daniels is a true patriot,” added the Tucson, Ariz., native deployed here from Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Ariz. “Everything they do, they express America, patriotism, and pride in what we do here.” Country Music Photo Gallery
