Trace Adkins helped keep country’s traditionalist flame burning while the crossover-happy late ’90s, mixing classic honky tonk with elements of gospel, blues, and rock & roll. Adkins was born in the small Louisiana town of Sarepta in 1962 and took up the guitar at an early age; he went on to study music at Louisiana Tech, where he also played football and worked on an offshore oil rig after graduating. His finger was severed in an accident at a time of on the job, and once several years had passed, he came back to songs with the gospel group of four the New Commitments. In the early ’90s he began to pursue a solo career, performing honky tonk bars and stages as often as he could, and honing a powerful, wide-ranging baritone voice in the process. He spent several years on the circuit and finally moved to Nashville to try his luck in the industry; he was quickly signed to Capitol by Scott Hendricks, who’d produced the likes of Brooks & Dunn, Faith Hill, and Alan Jackson.

Adkins put forth his debut album, Dreamin’ Out Loud, in 1996, and it established him as a rising star. The lead single, “Every Light in the House,” went to number three; “I left Something Turned on at Home” hit number two; and “(This Ain’t) No Thinkin’ Thing” went all the way to number one. His 1997 follow-up album, Big Time, spawned another Top Five hit in “The Rest of Mine,” and “Lonely Won’t Leave Me Alone” just missed the Top Ten. However, it wasn’t quite the commercial powerhouse of Dreamin’ Out Loud; neither was its follow-up, 1999’s More, which featured just one Top Ten single in the title track. Nonetheless, all three albums made the country Top Ten.

2001’s Chrome brought Adkins into the Top Five of the country album charts for the first time, as the Top Ten lead single, “I’m Tryin’,” proved to be his biggest hit since “The Rest of Mine.” In July of that year, Adkins was arrested for drunk driving and later pled guilty. The title track of Chrome belatedly climbed into the Top Ten in early 2003. Capitol put forth Greatest smashes Collection, Vol. 1 in July of 2003 and its companion DVD, Video Hits, in February 2004 with Adkins’s fifth studio album, the December 2003 release Comin’ on Strong, sandwiched in between. In 2005, Adkins had a major hit with “Honky Tonk Badonkadonk” from his record material About Me. The record Dangerous Man was issued a year later. Live in Concert appeared in 2007 as part of the Big lineup Concert CD series. X (Ten) was gave us in 2008.

Trace Adkins To Headline NRA Country Jam

Trace Adkins Will Be Headlining The 2nd Annual NRA Country Jam. Trace Adkins was last months “This Is NRA Country” artist of the month and will be headlining the 2nd annual NRA Country Jam! The event will take place April 13 at the Ferrara Theatre and is presented by Bushnell and Folds of Honor. This will all be happening steps away from the exhibit hall in America’s Center in St. Louis during the NRA annual meetings. The exhibit hall will be filled to capacity with over 500 exhibitors displaying every shooting and hunting related product and accessory imaginable. Over 70,000 NRA members are expected in St. Louis for three fun filled days that will be kicked off by Adkins and NRA Country Jam II. “I can’t wait to take the stage at NRA Country Jam 2. It’s going to be a great show,” says Adkins. “Folds of Honor is an important cause and I’m happy to help give back to those who give so much for our freedom.” Folds of Honor was founded by Iraq veteran, Major Dan Rooney. Folds of Honor provides post-secondary educational scholarships for children and spouses of U.S. military service members killed or disabled during service. Adkins, NRA Country and Bushnell have designated a portion of the proceeds from the NRA Country Jam to go to the Folds of Honor Foundation.

Trace Adkins Announces Spring 2012 Tour, Songs and Stories. Trace Adkins has announced a low-key tour for Spring 2012 titled “Songs & Stories Tour“. The tour will hit theaters and auditoriums across the U.S., and will take a more down to earth approach than big budget arena tours. Adkins was inspired by his experience with CMT Invitation Only special last year after the release of his Proud To Be Here album. The concerts will feature not only performances of Trace’s tunes, but also stories and anecdotes that highlight his working-man roots and musical heritage. “I’ve had many narrow escapes and blessings in my life. Country Music Stars Sing The National Anthem At The 2011 World Series! If you didn’t know that the World Series has begun, well then it is quite possible you have been living under a rock. The two teams up for the title of champions are the Texas Rangers and the St. Louis Cardinals. Even if baseball isn’t your cup of tea, we know one thing that will please you! Just like any athletic game or event, the National Anthem is always sung before things get started. At this year’s World Series, Country Music had the honor of having 3 men perform the opening number! Scotty McCreery sang at game 1, Trace Adkins sang at game 2, and Ronnie Dunn sang at game 3! Except for the little hiccup McCreery had with audio, all of the men did fantastic! What other country stars would you enjoy to see and hear belt out our nation’s anthem? Which team are you hoping comes out on top? Do you agree that the Idol winner, Adkins, and one half of the former Brooks and Dunn did an A+ job? 2011 American Country Awards Nominations, Dates, Voting Details and More! The 2nd Annual American Country Awards Nominations have been announced, and fan voting is open! The ACAs offer a wide variety of categories like those offered by the CMA Awards and the CMT Awards, but with other previously unrecognized categories like “Touring”. Voting will remain open until Friday, November 11th in all categories except Artist of the Year. Voting for the Artist of the Year category will remain open until, Friday, December 2nd, two before the live show airs. Fans are able to vote in each category once daily until the deadline. For a complete list of all the nominations and categories, see below. Thw 2011 ACAs will feature Kristen Chenoweth and Trace Adkins as hosts, and will air live on Monday, December 5th at 8pm ET on Fox. Trace Adkins Joins Film The Healer

Trace Adkins Joins Cast of Upcoming Film The Healer. Trace Adkins is honing his acting skills once again! Adkins has officially joined the cast of the upcoming film, The Healer set to release in 2012. The story chronicles the supernatural adventure of a father and his son and daughter as their camping trip in a forest turns out to be much more than they bargained for. Adkins plays the character of “The Truck Driver” who is clearly a member of the “supernatural” side of the cast. The description of the character is a little spooky: “a transporter of souls destined to hell. His huge rig is a prison for eternity from which there is no escape.” If you remember, Trace had a supporting role in a film released earlier this year, Lincoln Lawyer, in which he played a member of a biker gang. So, I guess these two roles share a transportation theme, but it seems to me that Adkins might be trying establish himself as a versatile actor who is willing to try out various roles. I’m honestly curious to check this film out, and see how Trace does. What do you think? Are you a fan of Adkins’ acting?

Trace Adkins Included in Already Packed Line-Up for CMA Music Festival TV Special. Trace Adkins has joined the line-up of star-studded performances for the 2011 CMA Music Festival TV special, CMA Music Festival: Country’s Night to Rock. The special airs on August 14th(shifted from its original air date of August 7th) on ABC at 8pm(ET).
