Give Me My XXX Music!

In an industry that tightly crams artists into commercialized categories, what happens to the outcasts? Over the years the definitions of country music and rock and roll have shifted so greatly that it’s hard to tell the difference anymore. We’ve got Kid Rock and Bon Jovi on our local country station, and Taylor Swift is pop’s favorite princess. The Daily Beast did an excellent job drawing conclusions that it’s the genres that have bent, and not the artists themselves. Above that, the radio stations have started to blur together just to get the highest ratings regardless of what their genre-market is. But what about those artists that don’t fit in either category? The ones that are too rock for country and too country for rock? We’re talking about groundbreaking performers like Shooter Jennings, Lucero, Drive By Truckers, Blackberry Smoke, Old Crow Medicine Show, and practically any band that fits in the Americana, Rockabilly, Red Dirt, and DIY Rock families? Shouldn’t they have an opportunity to be heard? Shouldn’t they have categories on the award shows, and sections in the record stores, and genre classes in the magical little iTunes app? I sense a civil unrest in the music industry. Country die-hards want authentic music. They want that dirty southern sound of Lynard Skynard and David Allan Coe. They want the play-till-it-bleeds passion of Hank III, Honky and Tiger Army. They even want the homegrown comfort of Reckless Kelly, MotorTrain and Scott H Biram and the regional sounds of Dolly Parton and Dwight Yoakam. I know I do! That is why I signed the petition at www.givememyxxx.com. I want the industry to know that even us “mainstreamers” are ready for a musical revolution. Give Me My XXX is a grassroots movement to give “outer-edge” artists a home. To bring them to the forefront of commercial music distribution and recognition. To celebrate their talent and fanbase. Many thanks to Shooter Jennings for lighting the fire of the music industry riot that is about to unfold!

LeAnn Rimes and Eddie Engaged!

LeAnn Rimes and Eddie Cibrian are officially engaged. LeAnn Rimes announced on twitter last Monday that Eddie Cibrian are officially tying the knot. She’s quoted as posting “Thank you for all your well wishes!! We are extremely excited and look forward to a beautiful future. It’s been an incredible last few days, I was shocked!!! We are blessed, our families are so happy and our lives are filled with love.”

Taylor Swift Single Again

Reports are in that Taylor and Jake are no longer dating. Taylor Swift may have a few more songs in her book about love lost, but something tells me this time they’ll be even more discreet. Taylor’s relationship to actor Jake Gyllenhaal may have ended, but the impression left behind is that this one was more mature than her pop-icon-dating-past. Apparently it was a combination of media attention and the vast difference in their ages that prompted Jake to cool the burners on their quick romance.

Kellie Pickler Weds on New Year’s Day

Kellie Pickler ties the knot in a private ceremony on New Years Day. Tis’ the season for country weddings as Kellie Pickler enjoyed an intimate wedding ceremony, joining her to Kyle Jacobs, in a private affair in the carribean. The ceremony was attended by close family and friends, and came just 6 short months after their engagement. Congratulations to the newlyweds! Kellie joins Shania Twain in the list of New Years Nuptuals so far.

Shania Twain Gets Married

Country music vixen, Shania Twain, marries Frederic Thiebaud in Puerto Rico on New Year’s Day. Shania Twain married fiance Frederic Thiebaud in a private beach ceremony in beautiful Peurto Rico on Saturday afternoon. It is interesting to note that Shania’s former husband, Mutt Lang, had an affair with Frederic’s ex-wife, which is how both Shania and Frederic ended up single in the first place. How bout them apples? Either way, I hope the newlyweds have a long and happy marriage.

Carrie Underwood Gets Golden Globe Nom

Oklahoma entertainer Carrie Underwood is honored with a Golden Globe nomination! Carrie Underwood seems just tickled pink by her nomination for a Golden Globe award. The nomination celebrates Carries song contribution of the original piece “There’s a Place For Us” used in the movie “Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader”. “I am absolutely thrilled by this wonderful honor today,” says Underwood. “It was such an exciting endeavor to have been asked to create music for the film. I grew up with the books and have been a fan of the earlier two movies. I can’t wait for the Golden Globes!” Congratulations Carrie!
