First-Ever Flatlands Country Music Festival To Be Held September In Kansas. Marquee Events and Sporting Club announced last week a new country music and camping festival to be hosted at Sporting Park in Kansas City, Kansas. The event, entitled Flatlands Country Music Festival, will take place from September 12-14. Luke Bryan and Toby Keith have been tapped to headline the inaugural festival. Rand Levy of Marquee is promoting Flatlands in partnership with Sporting Club, the ownership group for Sporting Park. Levy is owner of WE Fest, the largest country music and camping festival in the United States. He and his partners have long been interested in bringing the popular event concept into a new market. “When we were first approached to help create a new country music festival in Kansas City, we were blown away by the stadium and the potential for this market,” Levy said. “We’re very confident both the artists and our audience will have an incredible experience at Flatlands.” Bryan will headline on Friday, September 13 and Keith will be the featured performer the following night. Additional artists confirmed include Rodney Atkins, Kevin Fowler, J.T. Hodges, Love and Theft, Darius Rucker and Thompson Square. The Charlie Daniels Band will headline a free concert on Thursday, September 12 in the Sprint Plaza, an area directly adjacent to the stadium bowl. “We are thrilled to debut the festival with such an amazing lineup of country music stars,” said Andy Tretiak, Chief Marketing Officer of Sporting Club. “This will be a momentous event in Kansas City and Sporting Park is the perfect venue to serve as host.” Tickets and camping passes for the first annual Flatlands Country Music Festival went on sale Friday, February 15 at 10 a.m. CST. Remembering Mindy McCready

The country music community mourns the loss of Mindy McCready. The country music family is shocked and saddened this morning to learn of the apparent suicide of 37 year old Mindy McCready, whose hits included “Ten Thousand Angels” and “Guys Do It All The Time”. Miss McCready was found on the porch of her Heber Springs, AR home dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Her death follows that of her boyfriend and producer David Wilson only one month ago, and she leaves behind two young sons. On a personal note, when Miss McCready first burst onto the country music scene in 1996 with her chart-topping hit “Guys Do It All the Time” she joined the ranks of singers like Faith Hill and Shania Twain in bringing fans a feisty rock-infused brand of empowered female anthems. Her fierce determination and candid demeanor made her one of the most relateable country stars on the scene, which connected with me very deeply. While many news outlets are busy picking apart the evidence of her emotional and mental scars, I hope that those with the loudest voices remember she was a talented woman who, like so many others, had real life issues that no amount of celebrity can fix. I wish the best for her sons and her grieving family. For me, her contribution to the soundtrack of my life will far outshine the stress that tabloid press added to hers.
