5 Reported Dead in Sugarland Stage Collapse

A severe storm brings down the stage at the Indiana State Fairgrounds just moments before Sugarland was set to perform, killing a reported 5 victims and injuring dozens more. Our hearts go out to the family and friends of those lost loved ones during last night’s horrific stage collapse at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. It is reported that five were killed and at least 40 injured as severe weather caused the stage rigging to become unstable and fall to the ground with very little warning. Sugarland has predictably cancelled tonight’s performance, and there is no word yet on rescheduling the concert as all parties involved are in deep sorrow over last nights events.

Taylor Swift is riding the wave of success on not one, but FIVE Teen Choice surfboard trophies! Taylor Swift is all the rage at this year’s Teen Choice Awards as she nabs the night’s top honors in five different categories. Choice Music: Female Artist Choice Music: Female Country Artist Choice Break-Up Song (For “Back to December“) Choice Music: Country Single (for “Mean“) Her fifth and final award for the night was the highly coveted Ultimate Choice Award. She received the highest TCAs honor for her extraordinary contributions to the entertainment industry. “I’m so happy,” she gushed during one of her acceptance speeches. “This is the first time that I’ve ever been to the Teen Choice Awards and this is amazing. I want to thank the fans. You’ve guys have made my life so beautiful and it’s all because of you.” Taylor wasn’t the only country artist making waves though… Jason Aldean and Lady Antebellum also represented Nashville well with honors of their own. After a long lockout of negotiations and speculations, NFL teams are back in business and the box offices are raking it in! This weekend football fans all across the country are clamoring the box office nearest them to get the best seats in the house for their favorite NFL Teams, the whole while I am sitting at home scratching my head. How did we get to the place where a backyard sport entitled a person to months of lockout negotiations and mega-million dollar deals over tossing a ball? I understand that a few years of this game is all they’re going to have to support themselves and their families for the rest of their lives, but how many millions does one man need? Americana rock and roller, John Cougar Mellencamp, proves touring is not just a young man’s game. John Cougar Mellencamp is showing the industry kids a thing or two about hard work as he barrels through city after city on his “No Better Than” tour this fall. Now sure, he’s not exactly country, but the country and rock genres have overlapped so much that you could almost hear his hits “Jack and Diane” and “Hurts So Good” on your local country stations couldn’t you? Anyhow, those are just my thoughts.

Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton’s wedding video was NOT intended for public sharing, and has since been removed from the original youtube account. While SOME country music sites may continue to host and share the video, I will not be making an attempt to do so. Congratulations to the happy couple, and my sincere wishes that your private moments stay private. The wedding of the year between Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton seems like it was quite the fun and intimate affair.
