CMT Music Awards Performers Announced

First Batch of 2011 CMT Music Awards Performances Have Been Announced! The 2011 CMT Music Awards is shaping up to be an awesome show, as there will be several fan favorite performances! So far, Jason Aldean, Lady Antebellum, Kieth Urban, Rascal Flatts and Sugarland are all set to perform. All the nominees have been announced, as of last week, and fan voting will remain open until June 7th. Click here to check out a complete list of the nominees. The CMT Awards will air live on Wednesday, June 8th at 8pm ET/PT. You can catch the show on either CMT or cmt.com.

Shawna Russell’s New Video

Shawna Russell’s New Video: “Get Right or Get Left”. Oklahoma native Shawna Russell originally hit the scene in 2008 with the release of her debut album, Goddess, which received a fair amount of positive attention, enough at least to get her on the circuit. She is currently working on her sophmore album, Shawna Russell, due out later this year, and she premiered the video for her latest single, “Get Right or Get Left” just this morning. The song is fun and lively, voicing a woman’s lost patience with a deadbeat man, and it does showcase her vocal and writing talents. She and director Mark Nicolosi clearly tried to make a video that would match the spirit of the song. “I had a great time making this video. Director Mark Nicolosi had such a unique vision for telling the story in the song. He helped visually capture the attitude of the music and assertive feeling of the lyrics.” -Shawna Russell I disagree with Shawna here, though. I think the song is sassy and endearing, but the video does not adequately capture this; something is just off. The setting is awkward and distracting with Shawna singing in the background and the “stories” taking place on the same set. It is also campy and overacted. I can see the creative angle they were going for, but I just don’t think they quite made it. I hope next time Shawna does her music justice by releasing a better video. Osage Creek Amphitheater in NW Arkansas

CMNB would like to welcome the new Osage Creek Amphitheater to Northwest Arkansas! While the brand new Osage Creek Amphitheater is still under construction, the buzz around the new 15,000+ capacity music venue is so loud it’s making my ears ring! This outdoor amphitheater, nestled in the base of the Ozark foothills near Springdale, Arkansas, is the most well-thought-out state of the art venues our staff here has EVER seen, and coming from us, that says a lot! Greg Smith, the owner, operator, and lifeblood behind the venue’s construction has taken the time to consider every single aspect from fan experience all the way to stagehands convenience. Here are some of the nitty gritty dirty details on what I think will be the best summer music venue in our region! Facts about the Osage Creek Amphitheater: For the fans: The Osage Creek Amphitheater is absolutely enormous, seating almost as many people as BOK center, and far more than any other music venue in the area. With many hotel and dining options in nearby Siloam Springs and Springdale, it’s easy to find lodging and services for those that are traveling a little further to see their favorite artists. Now let’s talk VIP – During our discussions about the venue, Greg made it a clear point that if you’re going to pay for VIP tickets, you’re going to need some VIP perks, and boy did he deliver! Besides best-in-house seating, the venue also features closer VIP parking, VIP concessions, VIP restroom facilities, and even a special mezzanine level which is ON STAGE so you don’t miss a single detail of the show! Sugarland’s “Tonight” Video

Sugarland’s New Video for “Tonight.” Can Sugarland get any better? Well, apparently, yes, they can. They recently released a new video for their hit song “Tonight“, and it is absolutely wonderful. It manages to be visually striking while not detracting from the music at all. I have to say Jennifer Nettles is so awesome! She is beautiful, energetic and really steals the show on this one! Not that I don’t love Kristian Bush because I do! They are clearly an amazing team, making amazing music. Okay, I’m done gushing! And you don’t have to take my word for it. Check out the video now! Shania Twain on Oprah Today!

Shania Twain Featured On Oprah Today. Shania Twain has been quite the busy bee! Her new autobiography, From This Moment On, hit stores today. Being a superstar, Shania has been in and out of the media for years, but with this book she offers her own perspective on life and love from her childhood roots in Canada to recent heartbreaks and triumphs. She will be promoting the release of From This Moment On in her first television interview in over five years on the Oprah Winfrey Show. In addition, she will also be giving the low down on her upcoming docu-series on OWN, “Why Not?” which premiers Sunday May 8th, 11/10c. Like her autobiography, the series will follow along on Shania’s journey giving an inside look at her most recent goings on. Click here to check out video clips from the interview! Blake Shelton Concert in Arkansas

Blake Shelton Concert at the University of Arkansas. Blake Shelton put on a concert that was free to student’s of the University of Arkansas this past Saturday. The show was held at Barnhill Arena on the campus in Fayetteville and there was a limited amount of general admission tickets available to the public. The comedic country star gave the audience a glance at his childhood when he played segments of songs that filled his home as he grew up. To everyone’s surprise the songs were “Play That Funky Music White Boy“, “Centerfold“, and “My Prerogative“. Shelton played most of his hits including his latest single “Honey Bee“. A calling of the hogs by the Arkansas crowd brought him out for his signature song “Ol’ Red” and made it the perfect ending to a successful night. A big thank you and best wishes go out to the soon to be married man from everyone in Razorback Country!

CMT Music Award Front Runners

Predictions for the CMT Music Awards, Who’s It Gonna’ Be? Yesterday the nominees for the 2011 CMT Music Awards were announced. This is always an exciting time of the year for the artists and fans. People always say they are honored just to be nominated, but let’s get real…all the nominees want that CMT Belt Buckle in their trophy case! Let’s just go ahead and jump on in! Video of the Year is THE award of the night. The nominees are not limited to males or females, solo artists, duets, or groups; it is simply the best videos out there. It’s hard to tell who will come out on top, but I’m going to give it a shot! “Colder Weather” could possibly be my favorite song right now, but it will have a hard time competing with videos that have been out a lot longer.  The obvious front runners for this category are “The House That Built Me”, “My Kinda Party“, “Mine“, and “If I Die Young” because they did so well on the charts. “The Boys of Fall“, “Hello World“, “Stuck Like Glue“, “Why Wait” and “Undo It” each give us a story along with the lyrics that can’t be ignored. If it was up to me Kenny Chesney would be the winner, “The Boys of Fall” was a great video that deserves recognition. It went above and beyond and had that certain something that the others just didn’t. Male Video of the Year, just like all the other categories, is a tough one. “Bullets in the Gun” puts us in the moment and “Without You” shows us a personal side to Keith Urban. “The Boys of Fall” and “My Kinda Party” are sure to put some competition in this all male category, but to say that I would want anyone to win over Blake Shelton would be a lie. He is a funny guy who is great at turning on a more serious and sensitive side when certain videos and songs call for it. My pick is “Who Are You When I’m Not Looking“. Female Video of the Year has both ends of the spectrum, from a hard hitting break up song like Carrie Underwood’s “Undo It“, to a love conquers all approach like Taylor Swift’s “Mine“. In between we have “Turn On the Radio“, “A Little Bit Stronger“, and “The House That Built Me“. It’s hard not to sing along with all of these songs, but based on the video I think the clear choice is Miranda Lambert, “The House That Built Me“. Group Video of the Year gives us the usual nominees for this category, Lady Antebellum, Little Big Town, Rascal Flats, the Zac Brown Band, along with the new family trio, The Band Perry. I’m going to have to say they will take this category no questions asked. “If I Die Young” hit the charts like a ball of fire, there was no stopping this video or song!
