CMT’s Next Superstar Reality Show

Real World meets American Idol in CMT’s new talent competition: CMT’s Next Superstar. American Idol and Dancing With The Stars executives team up to bring a reality-show format to a talent competition in CMT’s upcoming series “CMT’s Next Superstar“. The series will feature ten episodes in which contestants will live together and compete against each other in industry tasks such as video production, songwriting, performances, interviews and more. The series will air beginning this April so stay tuned! One of the reasons this show stands out from the rest is that it’s the only show where the contestants take an active role in deciding who’s in the band,” noted executive producer, Simon Lythgoe. “Whereas contestants must sing in different genres on other shows, this is all about Country music. Our contestants will turn some world renowned songs from other genres like Pop or Motown, pour their soul into it and make it Country. Past reality/talent competitions on CMT have brought us stars like Miranda Lambert and Steel Magnolia… let’s see what this one can fish out!

Lady Antebellum and Miranda Lambert at the Grammys

Country music gets represented well at this Sunday’s Grammy Awards! This Sunday the world will tune in the The Grammy Awards on CBS to see who wins some of the industry’s top honors for the last year and who gives some of the hottest performances. Representing our little corner of the world will be Lady Antebellum and Miranda Lambert, the only two country music acts to grab a spotlight during the broadcast. Martina McBride will also pop in for a part in a fantastic Aretha Franklin tribute. The 53rd annual Grammy Awards show will air on CBS at 7 p.m. Central, and numerous local artists are nominated during the Pre-Telecast Ceremony, which will be streamed live at www.grammy.com/live from 3–6 p.m. Central.

Snow Days, Snow Days!

With half the country covered in a thick blanket of snow, here’s ten ways the CMNB crew has been killing time! It’s Day 3 of what has been affectionately nicknamed “Snowpocalypse 2011” and the staff at CMNB is starting to run out of ideas on how to kill time in the frozen tundra. Here’s what we’ve tried so far… We’ve resurrected the Myspace account that started it all, only to find that Myspace is no longer useful in any way. Instead it is overwhelmingly covered with advertisements, pop-ups, and is desperately just trying to keep up with facebook. We have taken up leather crafts, creating necklaces, bracelets, wallets and keychains. Of course then I started having flashbacks of a childhood summer camp/child labor experience so we had to put that away. We baked. Then we ate. Then we slothed on the couch watching Steven Tyler on American Idol until our brains went numb. Then the scale told me I shouldn’t do that anymore. We video-gamed out on Little Big Planet 2, Red Dead Redemption and CoD Black Ops. Of course I’m not in any way coordinated with a video game controller so it was a lot of me dying right away and everyone laughing. We played in the snow… for about 5 minutes before our fingers turned blue and we ran back inside. I learned to use the brand new sewing machine that’s been in my closet since Christmas of 2010. I learned that it costs $1 to bribe a child to trudge through the snow to the mailbox, and $2 to have them take out the trash. Me sitting on the warm dry couch while they perform these tasks is priceless of course. We took bets on which cars were most likely to slide out of control on the highway running parallel to our property. The winner was a Toyota Camry for those keeping track. We wrote songs about being snowed in, about the wonder of PAM cooking spray on a satellite dish, about the hot Arizona sun, and about our hound being an all-terrain-animal. And finally, we gave up on entertaining ourselves, and Netflixed every John Wayne film in their library. Now we are halfway through Day 3 and out of ideas… what are YOU doing to battle cabin fever?

Working Class Premieres Tomorrow

CMT’s laugh-out-loud sensation, Working Class, is making its big debut tomorrow night! Melissa Peterman had us in stitches and the ditzy but lovable nemesis of Reba, and kept us singing along with a smile on The Singing Bee, but I have a feeling the new series on CMT will be her best achievement to date. The sitcom Working Class debuts tomorrow, January 28th, at 8/7central on CMT and critics are already praising Melissa’s unbridled comedic timing and wit. Set your DVR’s kids, you won’t want to miss this!

Sugarland is given top billing at the ACM Fan Jam concert during the 2011 ACM Awards! The Academy of Country Music wants to be sure ALL fans have a chance to participate in this year’s live telecast of the 46th Annual ACM Awards in April. That’s why they have put together a special 3hour fans-only concert that will be broadcast simultaneously with the awards show. The ACM Fan Jam will feature Sugarland as a headliner, with more acts to be announced soon. The event will take place at the exact same time as the ACM Awards, and be broadcast from the Mandalay Bay Events Center. The ACM Fan Jam will include three LIVE remotes into the 46th Annual ACM Awards telecast-one for each hour of the show-and will also include a profusion of entertainment, including live performances by upcoming country music acts, prizes and special give-aways for attendees only, such as autographed guitars, trip packages to country music events and merchandise. Fans at the ACM Awards wear cocktail or dressy attire, but at the Fan Jam, concert attire is key because the night continues with many more live performances and appearances after the Awards taping ends.
