Kelly Clarkson Don’t Rush: Single Review

Guest Post: Kelly Clarkson Forays Into Country with ‘Don’t Rush’ – Single Review. I, like I assume many others are, am still confused as to Kelly Clarkson’s nomination for CMA Female Vocalist of the Year (Olivia Newton-John Gate anyone?), as the only country I was aware of her making was the country mix of her previously pop song ‘Mr Know It All’ and a duet with Jason Aldean on ‘Don’t You Wanna Stay’. Correct me if I’m wrong. So in mind of this, it seems almost as if Kelly has made an effort to make country music to sort of prove her worthiness, duetting with Vince Gill (always a good start) on her new single, ‘Don’t Rush‘. I’m not doubting that Kelly could have a real country career if she wanted to and make proper country music, but this seems like an attempt to please all camps. The song is in a soul/R&B style that reminds me very much of Kelly’s first album, Thankful (music which I’m pretty sure she claimed not to have had much part in making, preferring rockier stuff, coincidentally), but from the off we’re confronted with a steel guitar. However, it doesn’t come across as being played in a very country manner, and reminds me more of the Hawaiian roots from which it originates. The sounds are far more focused on a soul swung beat, and the ‘country’ elements such as the steel guitar and the twangy electric guitar solo become part of the song as opposed to infusing it with country. You can barely even hear Vince, you have to actually listen properly just to hear his background vocals, and when they sing overlapping alternate “baby don’t rush”s towards the end, he just sounds like a session musician brought in to fill up the mix. Nothing is really made of his contribution whatsoever, and it feels as if she’s getting by on his name in order to get airplay on country stations. It is what I would call a ‘lazy Sunday’ song, a chilled, lying in the sun kind of soundtrack, and it’s pleasant enough on the ears without begging me to play it again. The chorus has a nice melody but not fantastic or terribly catchy. It just all sounds a little average to me, trying to hop on the back of her decidedly random CMA nomination and the fact she scored Vince Gill to join her in the studio. Or rather, sing quietly over her vocals after she’d long left to go get pizza. I have always liked Kelly Clarkson (Breakaway was the soundtrack to my 2005/2006), but with so many people attaching themselves to the country brand for the privileges involved these days, I’m automatically suspicious when I hear something like this. However, it’s not bad as such, just not as good nor as country as I expected, so if you would like to buy it you can get it on iTunes although I can’t currently find a link. Sammy Kershaw Involved In Bus Accident

Sammy Kershaw, Band and Crew Involved In A Bus Accident. This past weekend, Sammy Kershaw, his band and crew were involved in a roadway accident while on tour in Texas. On Friday night after hitting the road following a concert in Nocona, Texas, Kershaw’s bus was struck by another passenger vehicle. The bus was impacted at a high speed, causing major damage, leaving the vehicle inoperable. The driver of the vehicle that struck Kershaw’s bus was taken to hospital with injuries. Kershaw, his band and crew were shaken and sore but not seriously injured. “My guys and I are a little sore today… the third day is always the worst. Eleven people were involved in the accident and no one was killed. It could have gone the other way. Buses and cars can be replaced but people can’t. I’m so thankful that the other driver, my band and crew are all still here. We had a guardian angel.” -Kershaw Kershaw has not canceled any concerts and will use alternate means of transportation until his bus is repaired. We at CMNB are very happy to hear that everyone is going to be just fine! Accidents happen every day, just stay focused when on the road. On a lighter note, here is one of my all-time favorite Kershaw songs!

David Kroll Releases Little Soldiers For Veterans Day

David Kroll Helps Charity With Proceeds From “Little Soldiers.” David Kroll’s current single, “Little Soldiers” has touched many soldiers and families. In honor of Veterans Day (November 11th), the artist and Tenacity Records have partnered with the Code of Support Foundation and will be donating proceeds from a two-week sales period to the organization (November 5th – 18th). The Foundation’s mission is to bridge the gap between civilian and military America. Kroll wrote the song withArlos Smith (Mayberry) and it acknowledges the sacrifices made by the families of those serving their country. “David came to us with the idea of putting this song out there to honor the families of service members and veterans, and then we both agreed that we wanted to try and have a positive impact past the song itself. That’s when we started looking around for a partner who could benefit from any money raised by sales of this song. We all felt the Code of Support Foundation was a great choice and could put money the sales of this recording generates to good use, helping the families of the enlisted men and women who are serving our country.” – Mike Kraski, President of Tenacity Records. According to Kroll, many songwriters and artists have written and recorded songs that are a fitting and appropriate tribute to the enlisted men and women who serve our country each and every day, but few songs acknowledge the families who are making their own special sacrifices while their loved ones are serving. Below is a video of Kroll talking about the song. Get your copy of “Little Soldiers” at iTunes now.
