Country Music Tours: Why They Matter

Why Country Music Touring Continues To Be The Life Of The Industry. I love when artists and bands tour. Particularly for the more popular ones, I seek out the dates before they’re released, get the pre-sale if I can, wait for half an hour on the website before it even lets you buy tickets. The excitement of being lucky enough to grab some seats near the front and the dismay at having to pay Ticketmaster huge booking fees, to do, well, not a lot; ordering for a few of your friends and texting them the seat numbers afterwards; making a countdown; updating Facebook about it; writing it on your calendar; listening to the support acts’ music on YouTube. And then the weeks leading up to it, dreaming and fantasising about what songs they’ll play, the things they’ll say to the crowd, what they’ll be wearing and whether they’ll do impromptu meet’n’greets after the show. Live shows are more than one event that lasts for 3 hours on a school night. They last for months, building up to the big day, particularly if you’re younger and you don’t get to go see people live too often, because your parents won’t pay for all of them. Impact On Industry. It’s important to the country industry too. Going back 100 years to travelling medicine shows, touring was a huge source of income for country singers, where recording was expensive and couldn’t always access hard-to-reach rural communities where the musicians lived. Back in the day the majority of advertisers stayed well clear of the ‘hillbillies’ and their ‘hick music’ on country radio, or at least country slots on radio before it became a popular format, so radio generally couldn’t pay the people who came on to play live (before it became largely record-based). So touring was very important, and it remained important for country music to be able to interact with its fans, as it is such a fan-orientated music. Today country touring is huge, and despite massive success in record sales and radio airplay it remains the biggest source of an artist’s income, for most anyway. This is because unless they’ve signed a ‘360’ deal, artists will get all the profits of a tour, after everything has been paid for, and I mean everything. The record label don’t get anything. In recent years the ‘360’ deal has come in, meaning 360 degrees of payments going to the record company, as in they get paid from everything an artist does. It’s a shame, but due to much of music going online and not brining as much extortionate profit as the industry was used to in the 1980s, they’ve become greedy and tried to extract more money from their roster. Connecting Artists and Fans. But touring – it’s a fantastic way to connect with your favorite artists. When you really love an artist, you establish your own personal emotional connection with them and their music, and seeing them live is a climax of musical perfection Continue reading Country Music Tours: Why They Matter

Tate Stevens On The X-Factor: Are You Watching?

Aspiring Country Singer Tate Stevens Is Taking Reality Show, The X-Factor, By Storm. After being the mean guy on American Idol forever, I was kind of over Simon Cowell, and because of that I’ve kind of been ignoring The X-Factor (USA edition). Thanks to some of our twitter followers and dedicated readers (thanks y’all!), my attention has been drawn to one of the reality show’s most popular contestants, aspiring country music singer, Tate Stevens. All the typical television over-dramatization aside, Stevens has got some real talent, he’s a humble guy and he and his wife are completely adorable. He’s just an average dude, chasing a dream, and now, along with Simon, I kind of want him to win. Check him out below, and find him on Twitter. Garth Brooks May Tour In 2014

Hotel Developers Steve Wynn Says Garth Brooks Will Kick Off World Tour In 2014. There hasn’t been any kind of formal confirmation from Garth Brooks camp yet, but Las Vegas based hotel developer Steve Wynn recently let slip in an interview with the Las Vegas Review Journal that Brooks is planning to kick-off a World Tour in 2014. He just finished up his 180 show, 3 year residency at Wynn’s hotel, Wynn Las Vegas, and the hotel developer says that, “He’s itching to get started on the world tour.” Garth, who formally retired in 2000 and whose last tour was in 1998, told the industry and fans that he wouldn’t hit the road again until after his youngest daughter graduated from high school. Is she really a teenager already? How time flies! She’ll graduate in May of 2014…so, that is auspicious timing! Whether any of Wynn’s statements are true or if they’re just way of drumming up interest or publicity or something, he sure got one thing right, “That Okie, he’s one gifted son of a gun.” If this 2014 World Tour becomes more than a rumor, no doubt, country music fans will be thrilled! Rascal Flatts On Chelsea Lately

Rascall Flatts Will Be on E!’s Chelsea Lately & NBC’s The Voice! Rascal Flatts will be on Chelsea Lately tonight, November 19! E!’s comical and sometimes controversial Chelsea Handler gives an interview unlike most which makes her segments all the more better. Her episodes that feature country stars always give me a laugh as the stars usually can barely answer a question from laughing themselves! The group will also appear on NBC’s The Voice tomorrow, November 20. Last week, Jason Aldean made his first performance on the show with “The Only Way I Know.” He had some help from two of the shows contestants, so I assume Rascal Flatts will do something along the same lines! Both of these appearances are to celebrate the release of their DVD project, RASCAL FLATTS: ALL ACCESS & UNCOVERED. The DVD is available starting today. It debuted in movie theaters across the country in a one-night-only event in conjunction with their CHANGED album release this past April. The DVD includes exclusive performance footage of some of their biggest hits and new music from CHANGED, as well as in-depth personal interviews from the road and inside the home studio of Jay DeMarcus where the album was recorded. Rascal Flatts will extend the Farmers Insurance Presents “Changed Tour” into 2013, kicking off a winter leg on January 10 with special guests The Band Perry.

Carrie Underwood To Sing Two Black Cadillacs at American Music Awards

Carrie Underwood Debuts New Single “Two Black Cadillacs” at 2012 American Music Awards! On Sunday night, Carrie Underwood will be representing for country music at the 2012 American Music Awards when she debuts her new single, “Two Black Cadillacs“, in what no doubt be a powerfull and stellar performance! The single will start getting airplay on country radio on November 26th. Catch the American Music Awards Sunday, November 18th at 8/7pm central on ABC. “Two Black Cadillacs” is featured on Carrie’s most recent album, Blown Away, which debuted in May. Maybe its just me, but the songs she’s released so far (“Blown Away“, “Good Girl“) seem to be a little darker than her previous single. She has other songs about cheating and hardship, sure, but these seem to have more edge. Maybe its something in the instrumentals? Whatever it is, I love it!

Jason Aldean Opens Up About Marriage, Career and More

Jason Aldean Shares A Look Behind the Scenes of Touring, His Career and His Recent Scandal. After everything that happened once TMZ linked photos of Jason Aldean in the arms of another woman at an LA hot spot, Aldean and his team issued an quick apology statement but haven’t said much else since.
